Overview of the Role
The role of the Maintenance Supervisor is critical to the ongoing success of the Maintenance and Reliability effort. This position aligns the operational risk, priorities and needs with the required maintenance resources. This role looks at the strategic execution of the maintenance backlog and communicates with the planning and scheduling coordinator to ensure timely service, material procurement, and resource/trade schedules. This position directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment. The maintenance supervisor is the primary contact for the operations group has a strong working relationship within the production/packaging teams.
This position has the responsibility to ensure safe work practices, quality standards, and procedures are followed as well as ensuring high productivity from this department. This position ensures effective maintenance scheduling and employee development.
How you will make contributions that matter:
Work closely with key stakeholders like other maintenance supervisors, Production/Packaging supervisors, production/packaging managers and the maintenance manager to align and prioritize the organization’s maintenance plan.Work closely with maintenance P&S coordinator to ensure timely scheduling of work.Maintenance process champion – holding production/packaging and maintenance teams accountable to the maintenance process.Coordinate all service and materials for emergency/break in work for the area.Utilize the corrective maintenance prioritization tool to evaluate and prioritize risk of backlog.Manage ‘required end dates’ associated with work order backlogs within the CMMS (SAP) and work with production/packaging supervisors to prioritize based off risk. First contact for production/packaging break in work. Coordinate break in workorders with Supervisors, ensure services and materials are available.Main point of contact for service providers, vendors, and maintenance contractors to schedule repairs, servicing, preventive maintenance, and other projects required to keep the company’s physical assets running smoothly.Ensure all GMP and personal safety requirements are met for all service providers, vendors and maintenance contractors. Complete and ensure compliance to all Saputo SOP’s including; Field level hazard assessment (FLHA), Confine Space Entry (CSE), Hot Work, Post work Sanitation Forms, etc.Work closely with other maintenance supervisors to ensure timely execution of work to meet production/packaging expectations on schedule.Manage PM change request within the area of assignmentAssist with troubleshooting equipment problems throughout areas of responsibility, determine maintenance needs, schedule repairs, and oversee progress of same.To foster an environment of continuous improvement, complete projects that will strengthen the business.Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include; performance management, training, coaching, planning, assigning, and directing work; ensure work is completed on a safe and efficient manner.Supervises, develops the skills and directs/ delegates activities of the maintenance crew.Audit the PM’s and repairs to ensure it meets maintenance standards and expectations holding the tradesmen responsible for their performance.Perform cross shift communication to relay critical operation information.Assesses ongoing maintenance projects and job orders and determines work priorities for workers.Ensures safe working conditions and safe work procedures are understood and followed by crew.Communicates equipment and job order status to key stakeholders.Understand, present, and enforce policies regarding safe work practices, production methods, food safety, quality standards, and preventative maintenance.Conduct daily toolbox talks procedures and standards for work, safety and food safety.Assist with troubleshooting equipment problems throughout areas of responsibility, determine maintenance needs, schedule repairs, and oversee progress of same.Manage and maintain competency matrices and training matrices for employeesManage, develop and mentor competencies for employeesLead Root Causes Analysis (RCA) process for emergency eventsHave input into developing maintenance budget.Evaluate productivity and other performance measures of employees and recommend possible improvements to work processes.To foster an environment of continuous improvement, complete projects that will strengthen the business.Optimize the preventive maintenance program.Work with operations and workers to make equipment modifications and to schedule equipment downtime for PM’s.Skills:
Requires a bachelor’s degree or Journeyman Electrical or Millwright Trade qualification.Minimum of 5 years of experience within a supervisory role.Strong understanding of maintenance process.Supervisory and project planning experience.Lean Six Sigma training considered an asset.Food manufacturing experience is highly valued.Experienced in Microsoft Office programs.Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as SAPIn Canada, Saputo is a leading cheese manufacturer and fluid milk and cream processor, with a portfolio of well-loved brands such as Dairyland, Armstrong, Neilson, Alexis de Portneuf, and many more.
