As a Superintendent Maintenance - Instrumentation you will lead, plan, and direct all Instrumentation Department activities at the refinery to achieve reliability and availability while working in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.

* Direct the Instrumentation Department and other assigned staff to maximize productivity and performance.
* Manage Instrumentation/Analyzer craft work orders and preventative maintenance backlog to ensure detailed work activity is planned, scheduled and executed.
* Maintain and optimize operation of the refinery Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Safety Systems.
* Ensure that company and contract maintenance employees are in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
* Analyze all work requests to determine necessary repair or replacement and advise as to estimate manpower and material requirements.
* Determine needs for maintenance materials, warehouse stock, rental equipment and/or contract services.
* Assist with counseling, training, developing, and evaluating the performance of Instrumentation Technicians.
* Assist in the development and coordination of turnaround work.
* Conduct toolbox safety meetings and inspections, necessary to achieve safety goals while communicating changes in company policy, procedures, and objectives to employees.
* Supervise and participate in the development of reliable and efficient equipment in order to better production.
* Analyze problems that may arise and find a workable solution that is practical as well as cost efficient. Implement safe work habits for all employees and oversee outside service contractors to function efficiently.
* Ensure that the necessary equipment is ordered and an adequate supply of parts is maintained in stock by utilizing SAP and interaction with the Warehouse and Planning Departments.
* Maintain and evaluate equipment history through the SAP system, and work with the Warehouse on completing material listing for SAP.
* Monitor quality and quantity of work being done by outside repair shops and suppliers of Instrument/Analyzer equipment replacement parts.
* Prepare monthly activities report on Instrument/Analyzer work for management.
* Perform all necessary functions to complete Maintenance projects.
* Audit the work order system for volume, costs, flow, proper application of the priority hierarchy, and manpower usage.
* Develop and publish reports for management pertaining to costs, manpower utilization, productivity, reliability and forecasting. Reports will range from plant-wide all the way down to equipment-specific.
* Prepare and supply drawings, sketches, specifications, procedures, etc., in addition to maintaining files of maintenance history and instructions.
* Other duties as assigned.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
**Qualifications:**
Minimum Requirements:
* High school diploma or GED required.
* 10 years of maintenance experience in a refinery or similar industry required.
* General knowledge of operations, training of correct installations, and repair of equipment required.
* Technical knowledge of refinery equipment and maintenance practices required.
* Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV, AMS, and Triconex SIS required.
* Basic skills in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word and Excel) required.
* Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Meraux Refinery, required.
Preferred Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree preferred.
* Prior supervisory experience preferred.
