Summer Recreation Youth Leadership Coordinator
Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Recreation Youth Leadership Coordinator in Parks and Recreation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Youth Leadership Coordinator plans and implements a leadership development program which consists of training modules, social activities and volunteer opportunities. The Coordinator designs curriculum and supports persons with disabilities in programs (i.e. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medication, etc.). Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as planning, implementing, promoting, and evaluating recreation programs and services; scheduling, supervising, motivating, and evaluating Summer Youth Leadership participants; managing risks, ensuring participant safety; inventories, distributes and collects equipment and supplies; handling administrative duties, networking with community groups and organizations; organizing special events and outings, submitting regular reports, tracking statistics; maintaining a budget and attending staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:At least one season/summer of experience leading youth in a recreational setting and designing program curriculumKnowledge and understanding of Healthy Child DevelopmentAt least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skillsSupervisory experience an assetExperience teaching or instructing youth an assetExperience teaching sport an assetPrevious experience working with persons with disabilities an assetTechnical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Current certification in Workplace First Aid and Level C CPR an assetSuccessful completion of all training requirements prior to start dateAccess to a reliable vehicle may be required for some positionsAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Criminal Record Check.

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Seasonal- May 18th 2026 to August 28th  2026 Must be willing to attended overnight training (June) and overnight programing (August) at residential camp.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm. Must be flexible/some evening and weekend work required

SALARY: Non Union, $21.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

WORK LOCATION: Various Community Recreation Centres in the Halifax Regional Municipality
