Summer Recreation R.E.C. Van Coordinator
Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of R.E.C (Recreation Engages Communities) Van Coordinator in Parks and Recreation.

The R.E.C (Recreation Engages Communities) Van Coordinator will take the lead role in delivering programs to neighborhoods throughout HRM that have barriers to recreational opportunities as well as participating in special events on behalf of the Recreation Division. The R.E.C Van also delivers programs to various parks, beaches and other Recreational Facilities.  This position is responsible for planning, coordinating and scheduling a wide variety of activities for various age groups. They provide general supervision over the use of equipment, a program leader and the use of an assigned area or program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Plans, coordinates and supervisor recreation activities for a wide variety of age groups attending the various drop-in sitesImplements activities and provides general supervision.Schedules the season's activities and books parks, beaches, outdoor pool, spray pads and other facilities for visits.Tracks and documents the season's programs and outcomes.Keeps track of supplies and notifies the Recreation Supervisor when purchases need to be made.Attends and participates in regular staff meetings and in service trainings as necessary.Installs and removes program equipment.Greets public and program participants and provides information or directs to proper office.Performs administrative task, such as completing accident/incident report.QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:At least two seasons/summer of experience leading preschoolers/children/youth in a recreational setting and designing program curriculumKnowledge and understanding of Healthy Child DevelopmentAt least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skillsCandidates must have ability to work in a multi-tasked environment and have strong communication, organizational, time management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Ability to troubleshoot customer inquiries.Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:CPR, Standard First Aid (CSA Basic) certification or willingness to obtain.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Excel, Word and Outlook or comparable software applications.Copies of qualifications must be submitted upon hiringMust hold a valid Class 5 driver's licenseAbility to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public; train and supervise staffOrganize and conduct groups of all sizes; make quick and accurate judgement calls; enforce rules and guidelines at all timesMust be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods of timeMust be able to work under various weather conditionsAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Criminal Record Check.

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Seasonal, May 18th, 2026 - August 28th, 2026

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hrs per week. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule/overtime may be required.

SALARY: Non-union; $21.75 per hour (Plus 4% vacation pay)

WORK LOCATION: Based out of Beechville and Musquodoboit Harbour.
