Summer Overnight Camp Coordinator
Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for two (2) casual full-time positions of Summer Overnight Camp Coordinator with the Adventure Earth Centre.

The Adventure Earth Centre (AEC) offers immersive 5-day overnight programs for campers aged 7-16 years using unique outdoor programming, stories, and characters. 
 
The Overnight Camp Coordinator will be responsible for organizing overnight camps at Camp Mockingee, located in Upper Vaughn, NS. The camps will be offered during the Summer of 2026 and will include the Sunship overnight camp program (offered twice), the youth leadership overnight camp called L.E.A.D., Sprouts for 7-9 years old, Saplings 10-12 years old and YES Camp.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Camp Supervision:  Supervise Camp staff, youth leaders and campers in an overnight camp setting. Required to remain on-site to coordinate camp programming  Provide training to summer staff on safety and procedures at the overnight camp. Provide basic medical first aid to participants and staff while attending overnight programs. Responsible for administering medications to participants, confidentiality, and accuracy of recording information as needed. Program planning and oversight Supervise and support staff and youth leaders in behaviours guidance and use of equipment and supplies. Camp Programming:  Ensures programs are operating according to program manuals, content and delivery methods  Works with the Camp Director to update camp manuals and review programs. Organize, manage, and maintain equipment and supplies. Youth Leadership:  Plan and facilitate program-specific staff and youth leader training  Prepare mailouts, plan and lead orientation nights, schedule and support out trips, support and appropriately deal with the unique needs of supervising children and youth in an overnight setting. Organizing and leading information nights for youth leaders and parents. Creating and conducting the selection process for the Youth Leader's participation in their volunteer leadership assignment, providing support and feedback, maintaining the Adventure Earth Centre's core values. Checking in with the youth leaders at the beginning and the end of the day Participate in the organizing and staffing of the three day/two night Y.E.S Camp program Administrative Tasks: Support the Community Outdoor Recreation Coordinator  in handling administrative duties such as registering participants, sending program mailouts, tracking and inputting statistics and maintaining a budget Assist in designing curriculum and supporting persons with disabilities in the program Working with the Camp Director to write an end-of-summer report for the Community Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Staffing the three-day/two day YES Camp program QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education and Experience: Grade 12 or higher education  Studies in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education or similar courses is an asset. Must hold current certification in Wilderness Remote First Aid (valid through to August 28th, 2026) Must hold a current certification in First Aid and CPR Must hold a valid class 5 driver's license.  Must have experience leading children/youth in an outdoor recreation and/or environmental education setting Must have knowledge of outdoor skills and experience in outdoor activities  Previous experience working at an overnight camp (2+ seasons)Considered an Asset: Previous experience working with the Adventure Earth Centre is an assetManagerial supervisory experience  Current National lifeguard Service Certification  Mental Health First Aid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention  Experience facilitating youth in an overnight setting Experience with Halifax's Youth Leadership Program  Conditions of Employment: Applicants must be willing to obtain WHMIS training Applicants must be available to attend all orientations/training sessions (training dates to be determined) Copies of certifications must be submitted upon hiring The successful applicant is responsible for organizing their transportation to and from work sites Must be able to work indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. 

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates who are selected for testing may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

HOURS & WORK LOCATIONS:  
 
May 4- June 26 
Work location: Adventure Earth- Shubie Park (Fairbanks Centre, Dartmouth) 
Work Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm / 35hrs per week 
 
July 1 – August 8, 2026  
Work Location: Adventure Earth - Camp Mockingee (168 Smeltzer Rd, Upper Vaughn, NS) 
Work Hours: Tuesday to Saturday / 60 hours per week of camp 
The Overnight Camp Coordinator will be living and working full-time at Camp Mockingee during the dates listed. 

August 10 - 14, 2026 
Work Location: Adventure Earth - Shubie park 
Work Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00am 35hr per week 
 
SALARY: Non-Union; $22.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay), paid out biweekly. Eligible for paid holidays (if you work 15 of the 30 calendar days before the holiday and your next scheduled shift after the holiday, per NS Labour Standards)
