At BBVA, our Industry Coverage team plays a central role in connecting clients to the firm’s full range of products, including advisory and financing capabilities. As part of the Group’s strategic plan, the Industry Coverage unit is strengthening its capabilities to originate and support the execution of opportunities with our corporate clients across Europe and Middle East. As an Intern, you will work closely with senior bankers to drive client engagement, support the execution of strategic transactions, and contribute to the development of industry insights that underpin our client relationships. This position offers a unique opportunity to build a solid foundation in corporate and investment banking by gaining exposure to high-profile corporates, cross-border mandates, and dynamic industry sectors.
About the job:
What are we looking for?
a. Penultimate- or last year undergraduate or Master’s students in Business Administration, Economics,
Engineering, or other quantitatively oriented disciplines
b. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex ideas in a
clear and rigorous way
c. Full professional proficiency in English (C1 level required); an additional language is a plus
d. Genuine interest in investment banking, corporate finance, and client-facing environments
e. Strong teamwork skills, intellectual curiosity, high attention to detail, and a proactive, fast-learning attitude
f. Strong skills in Microsoft (excel, powerpoint, etc.)
Key responsibilities (Main tasks and responsibilities ofthe role)
○ Business origination
a. Support the preparation of pitch materials, client presentations, and industry analysis to support senior bankers in new business origination.
b. Contribute to company valuations using methodologies such as DCF, trading multiples, and precedent transactions.
c. Contribute to building and maintaining detailed financial models to support strategic recommendations.
d. Perform sector research, benchmarking, and peer comparisons to generate insights that inform strategic recommendations.
○ Transaction execution
a. Assist in the execution of live transactions across different solutions (M&A, financing, and capital markets) alongside product teams.
b. Contribute to internal approval processes, including preparation of materials for risk committees and transaction reviews.
c. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure deliverables are met under tight deadlines.
○ Management support
a. Help manage client relationships through follow-up tracking, targeting exercises, and preparation of tailored insights.
b. Maintain client pipelines, internal databases, and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
c. Support internal committees with the preparation of business reviews, client coverage plans, and sector strategy materials.
d. Monitor industry newsflow, earnings announcements, and macroeconomic developments, preparing concise digests for bankers.
