Summer Inclusion Coordinator
Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Inclusion Coordinator in Parks and Recreation.

This position is responsible for collaborating with the Community Recreation Coordinators and Inclusion and Accessible Specialist in the areas of training, developing and implementing in the delivery of inclusive recreation programs during the summer months. In collaboration with the Summer Manager responsible for coaching and assisting summer staff in the areas of implementing behavior management strategies, providing personal care and the development of inclusive program modification to support inclusive programming. This position may work geographically and must be willing to travel between recreation centers throughout the summer. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Assist Community Recreation Coordinator and Inclusion and Accessibility Specialist in establishing program capacity based on approved program resources Complete in-take interviews with participants and their families/guardians and liaises with families, caregivers and health professionals throughout the program. Ensure that intakes and other relevant documentation are complete and shared with staff.Develop and implements individualized plans to support inclusive participation when necessary (ie: picture boards, social stories, PECs program, transition schedules and behavior modification strategies) Maintain appropriate documentation in relation to providing inclusion supports.Coaches and models' positive strategies with all staff to support the successful delivery of programming for children and youth with Autism/ASD, behavioral challenges and cognitive disabilities. Assist in developing individual inclusion plans based on specific needs, abilities and interest all with staff.Ensure that all strategies, which are implemented, are compatible with all HRM programs/policies.Provides continual evaluation of each participant and provides supports when needed.Assist in the development and implementation of inclusion training for all Summer Recreation Staff.Provides therapeutic intervention in crisis situation using Crisis Intervention or Therapeutic Intervention, and or NVCI strategies and in cooperation with CRC and Summer Managers, Coordinates and/or provides for effective first response during incidents/emergencies; activates secondary, tertiary emergency response in a timely manner.QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Minimum completion of one year of undergraduate university degree or college diploma in a relevant field of study such as Therapeutic recreation, Child and Youth Studies, Psychology, Education Social Work, School of Communication. Disorders, Kinesiology- and/or equivalent level of training working with children and youth with a disability. Minimum 2-3 years related experience working with individuals of various ages and disabilities.Experience mentoring and/or coaching of staff and volunteer an assetPrevious training and/or experience in implementing behavioral management strategies. Previous Training and/or experience providing personal care.Valid certification in CPR/First Aid (CSA Basic) and NVCI (can be provided by employer) Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle. Technical/Job Specific Knowledge & Abilities: Must have demonstrated interest and knowledge of working with individuals who require additional support.Must have a good knowledge of inclusion strategies, adapting activities, behavior management and community resources.Must also have the ability to develop and access a variety of resources and a working knowledge of recreation program planning to meet the needs of all program participants. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal; May 18th, 2026 - August 28th, 2026

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. Must be flexible some evenings/weekends may be required.

SALARY: Non-Union; $21.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

WORK LOCATION: Various community recreation centers within the Municipality.
