Job Title: SUE Technician Job Description The Subsurface Utility Engineering Technician is responsible for providing underground utility flagging with proficiency using electromagnet equipment and other geophysical means. The role involves designating all utility line types, including conductive and non-conductive materials such as water, sewer, gas, electric, fiber optic, PVC, and other underground facilities that could affect site excavation. The technician marks utilities with flags and/or paint and produces a sketch of results for future use. Responsibilities + Provide underground utility flagging using electromagnet equipment and other geophysical means. + Designate all utility line types including water, sewer, gas, electric, fiber optic, and PVC. + Mark utilities with flags and/or paint and produce a sketch of results. + Learn to establish survey control and perform utility designation markings using conventional survey equipment. + Oversee maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicle. + Work effectively in a team environment and independently as needed. Essential Skills + At least 3 years of experience as a SUE technician. + Knowledge of subsurface utility engineering and utility locating. + Proficiency with electromagnetism, vacuum, ground-penetrating radar, and vac truck. + General labor and land surveying experience. + Ability to recognize duct banks. + Basic knowledge of AutoCAD. + Clear understanding of ASCE 38-02 standards and quality levels. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High school diploma/GED and five years of SUE designation and field survey experience. + Experience with robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS. + Ability to obtain and hold a federal security clearance. + Valid MD driver license with a good driving record. + Willingness to travel occasionally.
