Job Summary Job SummaryPosition Overview The Substitute Teacher is essential to maintaining a positive, structured learning environment in the absence of a regular teacher. By following established lesson plans and school protocols, they ensure instructional continuity, uphold classroom norms, and create a safe, respectful space for all students. Whether in a short-term or long-term assignment, the Substitute is expected to demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and strong classroom management while supporting students' academic and social-emotional development.
Requirements / QualificationsDuties Deliver instruction using lesson plans and materials provided by the classroom teacher or school. Maintain a well-managed, safe, and respectful classroom environment. Take attendance and complete all required documentation accurately and on time. Support individual student needs to foster engagement and understanding. Follow all school policies, routines, and behavior management protocols. Communicate professionally with students, staff, and school leadership. Leave clear, detailed notes for the returning teacher on student progress, behavior, and any notable issues. Demonstrate flexibility by adapting to various grade levels, subject areas, and instructional settings as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.? Holds a current 30-Day Substitute teaching credential or another teaching credential with the appropriate subject matter authorization in area of assignment issued by the California State Department of Education Commission on Teaching Credentialing. We welcome new teachers yet prefer teachers with any years of experience teaching in a public, charter, and/or private school setting. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required, and we celebrate linguistic diversity, valuing the unique perspectives and strengths that multilingual team members bring to our organization. Travel Requirements: 0 – 10% within Los Angeles County.
