The position falls within the substation department of the organization. The engineer will work to complete projects that support our utility customer with minimum direction. They will work with in-house and client engineers and designers. They will provide training and guidance to lower-level engineers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Develop project scopes, one-line diagrams, and estimates for substation projectsReview substation construction drawings such as electrical arrangements, plan and section views, grounding, cable and conduit drawings, and other project documents and verify compliance with appropriate codes and standardsEngineer and design lightning protection, grounding, and equipment replacement and repair for substationsMake necessary changes and corrections to drawings and documentationVerify the proper use of equipment and material according to project documentation standards and codesVerify that material and equipment are ordered and delivered on time for substation constructionTravel to project sites for walk downs and gathering information to develop the correct requirements for the projects to scope and develop substationsFunction as a project lead for substation projectsLead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or those external to complete substation projectsProvide training and guidance to lower-level employeesIdentify and initiate corrective action when substation project objectives are not being metInterpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projectsPromote engineering professionalism and standardsDevelop, recommends, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements that include all scheduling, resources, and cont information for complex engineeringPosition will require occasional site visits

Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum of nine years of experience in utilities working with substationsMinimum of nine years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finishMinimum of nine years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for substationsBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institutionMaster’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution will count toward years of experienceA PE License is required

Requisite Skills and Abilities

Advanced ability to perform design calculations such as battery sizing, AC and DC loads, system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus bars, fittings, insulators, ground grid design, and lightning protectionPossess advanced knowledge of standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEC and NESCAdvanced understanding of equipment, material, ordering, and bills of material for substation constructionStrong written and verbal communicationAdvanced ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipmentStay abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment

This is a Permanent position based out of Atlanta, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $64.90 - $76.92/hr.
