Job Title: Substation Engineer

Job Description

Join a specialized electrical engineering firm focused on high-quality, smart design for medium and high-voltage substations, industrial facilities, and utility projects. The company supports renewable energy integration and provides electrical design, protection and control engineering, and project management for both greenfield and brownfield projects. As an Intermediate Electrical Engineer, you will primarily focus on the design and management of projects involving the replacement of switchgears, circuit breakers, and transformers in substations.

Responsibilities

Lead substation electrical work packages on projects in the power utility, mining, industrial, and renewables sectors.Prepare electrical design deliverables for 12kV to 230kV substations/switching stations, including substation layout and cross-section design, equipment selection and specification, and grounding and lightning shielding system design.Perform electrical studies and calculations such as grounding studies, AC/DC station services load and battery sizing calculations, and lightning protection calculations.Review work done by other electrical engineers in the team, including designers.Supervise, mentor, and direct work to junior engineers, EITs, and designers.Lead electrical design discussions with clients and other project stakeholders.Interface and coordinate electrical design with other related disciplines such as civil, structural, P&C, and telecom.Provide technical support and perform Engineer-of-Record duties during construction and commissioning.Travel to project sites during design and construction phases.

Essential Skills

Electrical Engineering Degree.P.Eng certification.Minimum of 3 years of experience with substation electrical equipment (25kV or higher).Experience with ETAP, including lighting and lightning analysis.Experience with changing out switchgears, circuit breakers, and transformers.Proficiency in substation electrical design calculations, including rigid bus, battery sizing, and AC/DC station service.Proficiency with AutoCAD.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with CDEGS is a plus.

Work Environment

CThis position is based in the office four days a week with one optional work-from-home day. Flexibility is offered to team members. The company is growing rapidly and is expected to double in size in the next two years, offering opportunities for career advancement. Candidates can enter in a lead-level role immediately and may receive performance-based bonuses aligned with company growth. Projects include work with utilities across Canada and renewable developers.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $70.00/hr.
