Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Substation Design Engineer to lead the development of high-voltage substation design packages for utility, industrial, and commercial projects. You will be responsible for designing substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards, creating equipment and material specifications, and preparing support documentation. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who thrives in evolving environments.
Design general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding, conduit drawings, details, bills of material, and AC and DC power systems for substations.Develop ground grids, lightning protection, and grounding plans using industry-standard software.Perform calculations including AC and DC load, bus spans, and ampacity.Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and develop design scopes and cost estimates.Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.Prepare additional documentation to assist in procurement, construction, and operation/maintenance of designed systems.Direct and/or participate in client meetings and job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.Ensure adherence to Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes for all design packages.
Essential Skills
5+ years of experience in substation physical design.Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.Strong knowledge of AutoCAD.Proficiency in MS Office applications.Minimum of 2 years of design experience with general arrangement, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding, conduit drawings, details, bills of material, and AC and DC power systems.Experience in utility, industrial, or commercial projects.Experience in directly related work with electricity, preferably in utilities.Work Environment
This position offers 100% remote work unless local to Phoenix, AZ or Austin, TX, where a hybrid work schedule is available. Our brand new office in AZ on Tempe Town Lake has a hotel-like feel. We are approved to place individuals in AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IN, MI, MO, NV, OK, SC, TX, WA, WV, or UT. Candidates not in these states must be willing to relocate. Preference is given to candidates in Austin, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Atlanta, GA, Reno, NV, Grand Rapids, MI, or Las Vegas, NV. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
