HDR is seeking a dynamic and experienced Substation Business Class Manager to lead and grow our nationally ranked Power Delivery team. This management role will be focused on strategic management, team development, and operational excellence within the Substation discipline. As a key member of our NC Power Delivery management team, the Substation Business Class Manager will be responsible for:

Team Management Development: Building and managing a high-performing substation engineering team. This includes recruiting talent, assigning responsibilities, mentoring senior staff, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.Project Oversight Resource Allocation: Overseeing the execution of substation projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence. The manager will plan resources, assign qualified resources per the scope of work, and ensure resources are following HDR’s project execution process.Strategic Growth Business Planning: Supporting regional and national growth strategies by identifying market opportunities, developing client relationships, and aligning team capabilities with business objectives. This will include creating annual area substation vision statements that aligns team goals with overall company goals to include resource growth, bookings, revenue, and profit targets.Client Engagement Relationship Management: Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key clients in the area. Understanding client goals and translating them into effective execution strategies that deliver value and build long-term partnerships.Technical Leadership Innovation: Working with the national technical leaders to guide the technical direction of the substation discipline, promoting continuous improvement, and supporting the development of specialized expertise. This may include contributing to industry professional organizations through technical papers, presentations, and participation in industry conferences.Collaboration Integration: Working with Client Managers, Operational Managers, and Technical Leaders to ensure seamless integration of services and consistent delivery of world-class solutions.

This role requires a self-motivated, strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of substation engineering, and the ability to manage teams and projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of HDR’s substation practice in North Carolina area and beyond.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous staff supervision experience preferredBachelor’s degree in Electrical EngineeringDesign experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 500kV, including at a minimum, conceptual knowledge of PC design and knowledge of IEEE ANSI, and other applicable design standardsExperience using industry standard design software (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation)Ability to travel, less than 10%Actively engaged in professional or industry associated to enhance HDR’s technical expertise and brandLocal candidates are preferredLI-SM1

Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field 10 years of experience Committed to quality, improvement and HDR valuesMaintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience 
Experienced in development and management of diverse teams Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
