Structural EngineerJob Location: LondonJob Type: PermanentRemuneration: Competitive salary taking into account skills, experience and qualificationsWe have a fantastic opportunity for Structural Engineer in the London.As a Structural Engineer working within a regional surveying team, you will inspect domestic and commercial properties that have suffered damage from a peril and specify the reinstatement works required. Each instruction will involve detailed assessment, technical understanding, and clear translation of site findings into accurate specifications.
You will also manage contract administration duties, taking responsibility for the project management of agreed works under JCT. This will include preparing the specification, supporting procurement, monitoring progress on site, assessing variations, and ensuring works reach completion in line with scope, cost, and programme requirements.
Other tasks include producing technical reports, carrying out quantity surveying duties, diagnosing defects, and preparing schedules of works, building reports, and tender documentation. These activities require strong technical judgement, structured thinking, and the ability to create reliable documentation from complex situations.
You will work closely with the Domestic and Commercial Loss Adjusting teams based in the London, with relationship‑building being essential to consistent communication, reporting, and case progression.
This role offers a valuable opportunity for a Chartered Building Professional who is looking to progress within a large organisation, gain experience across a broad range of property types, and develop a strong professional reputation through high‑quality technical work.
The skills you will have when you apply:Professional Qualifications: Possession of MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor status, or alternatively substantial and evidential professional experience while progressing towards Chartership, underpinned by a building‑related degree, reflecting the technical expectations placed upon a male or female practitioner operating at this level.
Licensing Requirement: A full UK driving licence, ensuring unrestricted operational mobility across varied and dispersed project locations.
Technical and Legislative Knowledge: A comprehensive, in‑depth understanding of building construction, associated methodologies and the broad legislative and regulatory landscape governing the built environment.
Project Planning and Control: The ability to design, coordinate and scrutinise project programmes to maintain uncompromising control over time, cost and quality parameters, ensuring no diminution of project standards by either him or her.
Contract and Schedule Expertise: Significant experience in the preparation of schedules, contractual documentation and the administration of building contracts, enabling authoritative and consistent professional judgement.
Personal and Interpersonal Attributes: A capacity to act with high responsibility, firm decision‑making and disciplined self‑management, while contributing constructively within wider teams, maintaining composure, articulate communication and empathetic engagement under sustained operational pressures.
