Stroke/Vascular Coordinator (RN)

Major Responsibilities:

Oversees and maintains the Joint Commission Acute Stroke Center certification in collaboration with Medical Directors, Chief Nursing Officer and Neuroscience Program Coordinator. This includes submission of applications, reports, action plans and coordinator of onsite Joint Commission certification visits.Develops annual program goals for stroke and vascular access in collaboration with key stakeholders and implements and evaluates the strategies to achieve outcomes. Establishes, implements and/or assists with the development and review of the stroke and vascular access program policies, procedures and order sets.Reports quality data to the Quality Medical Oversight Committee annually.Ensures the educational and competency requirements for personnel and community/EMS providers are completed to meet regulatory guidelines.Demonstrates and teaches current, evidence-based practices according to regulations and guidelines.Consults on patients to assess stroke care and/or to make recommendations related to vascular access needs based on standards of practice and patient care needs.  Educates patients related to stroke care/risk factors and/or vascular access devices.Performs advanced access skills including inserting PICC, midlines, ultrasound guided peripheral IVs, therapeutic blood draws and declotting and demonstrates complete and accurate consent and documentation.Remain abreast of all appropriate federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines including Advocate Aurora polices and protocol changes.Round on stroke patients in the emergency and inpatient settings regularly and collaborate with the clinical team to develop and implement stroke best practice plans of care.

Licensure:

Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.BLS Certified

Education/Experience Required:

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.Experience Required: Typically requires 5 years in nursing, program coordination, project management and/or working with regulatory and accreditation requirements.Prefer background in ED or Critical Care

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g. Joint Commission).Training through an accredited PICC line course.VABC/Vascular Access Certification within 1 year of hire.Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task to accomplish objectives and meet deadlines.Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) or similar products.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively with clinicians, patients and other health care staff. Ability to work independently.

Must be able to operate all equipment essential to performing the duties of the job. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and lift.
