4 Year Degree Job Summary The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for the development and management of the student-athletes and teams at Hillsdale College in a safe environment in accordance with the values and mission of Hillsdale College. The successful candidate will work with the Director of Sports Medicine & Performance and Head Strength & Conditioning coach to establish and oversee the program development for preventing injury and improving athletic performance for 14 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams.Essential Job Duties Create a positive atmosphere for women and men student-athletes to develop not only physically and mentally as required in their sport, but as individuals in accordance with the mission of Hillsdale College. Work with the Director of Sports Medicine and Performance and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach to evaluate and develop student-athletes by creating and tailoring performance and strength programs for 14 intercollegiate teams. Programs should emphasize the importance of developing proper movement mechanics and technique both in the weight room and on the field of play. Direct appropriate pre-training, pre-practice, and pre-competition warm ups with the mindset of preparing athletes to play and reduce the likelihood of injury. Work with the sports medicine staff to reduce the likelihood of sports-related injuries by being knowledgeable and aware of current injuries and the progression of current injury rehabilitation programs. Abides by and complies with the NCAA and Great Midwest Athletic Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of Hillsdale College. Contribute to a positive work environment with other coaches and administrators at Hillsdale College. Contributes to the overall success of the College’s intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience Minimum of two years of experience working in a position responsible for progressively developing and the management of athletes in a team setting. Experience with management and organization of a health/fitness or weight training facility is required. Experience as a student-athlete, or working with student-athletes in any sport at the collegiate level is preferred. Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair is preferred.
