Steel Machine Operator - 17-19/HR - 2nd Shift
**Job Title: Steel Machine Operator - 2nd Shift** **Job Description** As a Slitter Helper, you will be responsible for supporting the Machine Operator in setting up and running the machine to cut coils to size. This role requires a strong focus on safety, as you will use hand tools and metal clips to secure the steel. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the Slitter Operator and the Shipping Department, conducting visual inspections to ensure the steel coil is free from damage. Detailed work instructions will be provided for each task. **Responsibilities** + Assist the Machine Operator in setting up and operating the slitter machine. + Secure steel using hand tools and metal clips. + Conduct visual inspections on steel coils to check for damage. + Work closely with the Slitter Operator and Shipping Department. + Follow detailed work instructions for each task. **Essential Skills** + Mechanically inclined with knowledge of quality instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers. + Ability to lift up to 50lbs, not repetitively but for about an hour each day. + At least 1 year of experience in steel-related work such as stamping, press, CNC, or roll forming. + Proficiency in crane operation. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Ability to lift 50 lbs and bend. + Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. + Safety-cautious mindset. **Why Work Here?** Join a close-knit team in a small shop environment with around 20-30 people. The facility is spacious, allowing room to maneuver, but it can get warm in the summer. You will be surrounded by moving steel and cranes transporting bundles, so wearing hardhats and safety goggles is mandatory. This is a 2nd shift position from 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM, with potential Saturday hours and overtime working 50-60 hours per week. Training may occur on 1st shift from 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 2:30 PM Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling Heights, MI. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
