Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer (RAM Engineer) to support the Systems Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) program. Position Overview:

The System Engineering & Integration (SE&I) Team supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) as it develops, tests, and fields an integrated Missile Defense System (MDS). The selected individual will possess analysis, design, development, and test experience applied to Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) disciplines. The successful candidate will develop performance assessments for various scenarios in the MDS specification using Monte Carlo Simulation RAM tools, analyze Missile Defense Reporting System field failure data for trends, demonstrate results with internal/external stakeholders, and summarize results in quarterly/annual reports.

The selected candidate will review RAM technical documentation from Element program offices in support of technical reviews and Requests for Information (RFI) from external agencies to ensure compliance with MDA and Department of Defense directives. This individual will proactively coordinate RAM activities and products across the MDA enterprise, and regularly collaborate with functional group leads, senior management, and government personnel. The System Engineer will routinely brief task status, issues, as well as recommended resolutions to stakeholders.

Essential Functions:  

Perform RAM Analysis in support of the Missile Defense System and Subsystems.Inform the development of System requirements, concepts, and architecture from the perspective of Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability.Document analysis results in reports and briefings for critique and review by SE&I Team and MDA stakeholders.Create and present briefings within the team and to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and other supporting stakeholders.Duties will include leading small teams of engineers in the development of products.The position is in Huntsville, AL and is located on customer sites at the Boeing Jetplex facility and the Von Braun Complex on Redstone Arsenal.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 10 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience with a PhD.Demonstrated knowledge in developing RAM analyses and assessments of aerospace or defense products. This includes modeling and simulation, predictions, statistical data analysis and failure analysis.Must possess good oral and written communication skills.Must be capable of working on a focused team as an independent individual contributor.Must demonstrate the ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions.Capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.The successful candidate must also be willing to assume a technical leadership role at times.Ability and willingness to work on a customer site.Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should have RAM background, demonstrated collaboration and presentation skills and be able to perform in a fluid geographically distributed team environment.Understanding of, and/or experience with Missile Defense Systems (e.g., Aegis Weapons System, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system, Terminal High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) system, Command and Control, Battle Management Communications (C2BMC), MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, counter-countermeasures, or threats)A basic understanding of MDS system level requirements, performance parameters, sensors, missiles, interceptors, detection/tracking, or command and control.Experience with Visual Basic Programming in Microsoft Excel and/or MBSE processes a plus.Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.

Primary Level Salary Range: $163,200.00 - $244,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
