The Product Owner is the technical execution lead responsible for the quality and usability of our code. You serve as the technical bridge between UX and Engineering, converting high-fidelity Figma specifications into precise, actionable requirements. You are responsible for enforcing quality standards, ensuring that no story is accepted unless it meets our rigorous standards for accessibility, performance, and design consistency.
About EDS:
EDS is the unified digital platform that powers GE HealthCare’s global software portfolio. It serves as a comprehensive library of reusable UI components, design patterns, and accessibility standards that bridge the critical gap between User Experience (UX) and Engineering. By fostering a philosophy of \"reduce, reuse, and recycle,\" EDS enables hundreds of product teams to eliminate redundant coding and design work. We provide the foundational building blocks that ensure our clinical and operational applications are intuitive, consistent, and accessible, allowing teams to focus on patient safety.
EDS is the critical path for GE HealthCare’s software portfolio. Our downstream products cannot ship without our components. This requires a Product Owner who thrives in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment where quality and on-time delivery are non-negotiable.
The Mission: Scaling for Enterprise Growth:
We are in a phase of hyper-growth, scaling from 15 adopting products to over 100. You will play a pivotal role in this expansion by ensuring our component library is robust, reliable, and delivered on time. Your focus is on operational efficiency—managing the backlog so effectively that the Engineering team can build at maximum velocity without ambiguity.
GE Healthcare is a leading global medical technology and digital solutions innovator. Our mission is to improve lives in the moments that matter. Unlock your ambition, turn ideas into world-changing realities, and join an organization where every voice makes a difference, and every difference builds a healthier world.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Backlog Management and Requirements Definition
Backlog Ownership: You own and manage the product backlog in Rally. You are responsible for translating product vision and customer needs into clear, prioritized user stories.
UX to Code Translation: You collaborate with UX Designers to understand requirements and translate them into consumable user stories. You are responsible for translating UX specifications into Rally work items (Epics, Features, and User Stories).
Acceptance Criteria Definition: Provide engineers with well-defined acceptance criteria that incorporates UX considerations, including responsiveness, accessibility (WCAG), and design consistency.
Feature Breakdown: Work with the Architect and Engineering leads to break down large features into small, shippable increments. While the Architect owns technical feasibility, you ensure the refined stories still deliver user value.
2. Sprint Execution and Quality Assurance
Sprint Planning: Prioritize and lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, and other Agile ceremonies while collaborating with the Scrum Master. You prioritize the sprint backlog working with the Product Manager to ensure alignment with milestones.
Gatekeeper of Quality: You are responsible for accepting user stories. You partner with QA to validate that delivered functionality meets UX expectations and design fidelity before it is released.
Critical Path Delivery: You own the responsibility of on-time delivery. Because products cannot ship without EDS, you must manage the backlog with extreme discipline to ensure we never block a customer's NPI date.
Component Documentation: You treat documentation as a product feature. You are responsible for ensuring that every component includes clear functional documentation (e.g., API implementation details, Properties, Events). You will not accept a user story as \"Done\" until the technical documentation is sufficient for a developer to implement the component.
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Demos
Tactical Demos: While the Product Manager handles high-level evangelism, you own the technical demos. You demo features and product increments to customers and UX to gather feedback, ensure alignment with requirements, and demonstrate business value.
Adopter Support: You act as the first point of contact for technical questions from adopting teams. You review bug reports and feature requests, validating them before adding them to the backlog.
Education Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with a minimum of 10+ years of experience as a Product Owner within Agile software development teams.
Required Qualifications
Mandatory: Experience managing Enterprise B2B software products or complex technical platforms.
Mandatory: Proven track record working within large, global, matrixed organizations.
UX Requirements Experience: Within your 10+ years of experience, you must have at least 4 years of experience specifically writing requirements for UX-heavy applications. You must demonstrate the ability to translate visual design files (Figma) into technical stories with pixel-perfect precision.
Technical Fluency (Frontend Focus): Mandatory. You must possess a strong working knowledge of specific frontend technologies to write accurate requirements.
Required Frameworks: Deep understanding of at least one or more modern UI framework (e.g., Angular, React, Vue).
Technical Skills: Familiarity with JavaScript / TypeScript HTML5, and CSS3/SASS. Note: We are not looking for backend experience (Java/Python/DB); this role is strictly focused on the UI/Frontend layer.
Agile Expertise: Experience in Agile processes. You must be proficient using tools like Rally, Confluence, and Figma, with the ability to reference and discuss design specs effectively.
Key Competencies
Startup Mindset: You operate with urgency and ownership. You understand that in a platform startup environment, \"perfect\" is the enemy of \"done,\" but \"broken\" is not an option.
Requirements Precision: You do not write \"magic\" requirements. You understand the effort involved in a request and can write stories that are technically actionable for developers.
Excellent Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You can break down complex features into small, testable increments.
Communication: Excellent communication, organization, and facilitation skills across cross-functional stakeholders.
Work Schedule
This role reports to leadership in the United States (Central Time). You must be willing to work flexible hours to ensure significant overlap with US leadership and stakeholders for strategic planning and reviews.
Inclusion and Diversity
GE Healthcare is an Equal Opportunity Employer where inclusion matters. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
We expect all employees to live and breathe our behaviors: to act with humility and build trust; lead with transparency; deliver with focus, and drive ownership – always with unyielding integrity.
Our total rewards are designed to unlock your ambition by giving you the boost and flexibility you need to turn your ideas into world-changing realities. Our salary and benefits are everything you’d expect from an organization with global strength and scale, and you’ll be surrounded by career opportunities in a culture that fosters care, collaboration and support.
