Northrop Grumman Space System Sector is looking for a Staff Engineer Modeling & Simulation: Thermal Analysis to join the Thermal Analysis team within Launch Vehicles at the Chandler, AZ facility. This engineer will take over a leadership role as a Thermal Point of Contact for the first flight of a critical launch vehicle program. This role will require the engineer to be able to properly scope out thermal work for a launch vehicle program and to ensure that the work is done in an orderly and prompt manner. This will include directing other engineers to perform tasks and working with them to ensure task completion to program satisfaction.
Essential Functions:
Under minimal direction, perform a variety of thermal engineering tasks of an analysis, design, or test natureApply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of analytical engineering problemsSelect and/or modify proven methods, mathematical formulas, previous design and test information, handbook data or other available information related to the assignmentThermal analysis of avionics, structures, and ordnancePerform heat transfer analysis of components and systems on the ground and in spaceTake/provide direction and address issues using skills obtained in the field of engineering, or related thermal sciences as it relates to missile and space systemsUse classical heat transfer methods and software to predict temperatures and design thermal protection of rocket components on the ground and in flightKnown proficiency with thermal software (Sinda/Fluint, Thermal Desktop, ATAC, Star-CCM+, and other specialized heat transfer codes)Interpret, select, and apply company/commercial/military specifications and customer requirements to accomplish specific analysesProduce engineering documentation and technical reports/analyses to support design, integration, and testing effortsResponsible for gathering, compiling, and interpreting technical data such as flight data, test data, or material test reportsOther duties upon requestBasic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 12 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master's in STEM with 10 years of engineering related experience, or a PhD in STEM with 8 years of engineering related experienceAbility to obtain a DoD Secret security clearanceStrong thermal background with demonstrated work experience and knowledge as a thermal analyst/leadAbility to read engineering drawings and specificationsFamiliarity with thermodynamics, aerodynamics, compressible flow, CFD, and fluid mechanicsComputer skills with standard word processing/spreadsheet experienceAbility to listen effectively, take/give direction, and possess initiative to accomplish/oversee assigned tasks and complete work in a timely fashion
