Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a **Staff Data Scientist** to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Organization. This position can be located in **San Diego or Palmdale, CA; Clearfield, UT; St. Augustine or Melbourne, FL Locations.** Advanced Manufacturing Technology is currently developing innovative cutting-edge technologies that require a creative thinking individual.
**In this role, you will** :
+ Provide leadership/direction to ensure technology initiatives and opportunities for process improvements are systematically identified, pursued, and supported.
+ Develop architectures and concepts for advanced digital technologies with a focus on implementation within Northrop Grumman
+ Interact with customers (internal and external)
+ Reach out and work with colleges, universities, government, supplier as part of development and improvement projects
+ Provide leadership/direction to ensure technology initiatives and opportunities for process improvements are systematically identified, pursued, and supported.
+ Introduce and develop new technologies for the manufacturing floor
+ Lead projects consisting of cross functional teams of high performing engineers developing advanced systems designs and concepts.
+ Provide technical leadership and oversight to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative Engineering solutions
+ Apply new technologies as well as common designs and products enabling rapid development, prototyping and affordable solutions.
**Basic Qualifications** :
+ Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 12 years of experience in engineering; OR Master of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 10 years of experience in engineering; OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of experience in engineering.
+ Secret Clearance Periodic Re-investigation within the last 5 years
+ Knowledge of data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
+ Experience with common data science toolkits/languages such as python/R, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow, matplotlib, numpy, C++ or python
+ Exceptional analytical skills.
+ Familiarity with cloud
+ Knowledge and experience performing model uncertainty analysis, error modelling, and/or error propagation.
+ Knowledge of best practices in data analysis.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Experience developing mathematical models of dynamic systems from first principles.
+ Knowledge and experience with System Identification techniques using statistical methods to validate dynamic system models with test data.
+ Experience performing parametric and non-parametric system identification.
+ Experience with data acquisition systems and/or post-processing experimental test data.
+ Knowledge and experience performing model uncertainty analysis, error modelling, and/or error propagation.
+ Fluent with Python or Matlab.
+ Documenting processes and maintaining data records.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Secret Clearance Periodic Re-investigation within the last 5 years
+ Special Access Program (SAP) Current
+ Experience in hardware/software integration of manufacturing systems
+ Experience with querying databases and defining schemas (MS SQL) with the ability to perform data analysis and report findings
+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
+ Experience with high volume production ETL pipelines
+ Experience with production assembly/fabrication including Digital Transformation, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Systems Integration, IIoT, RFID, Cloud Based Applications, and/or production manufacturing operations
+ Working knowledge of classified information systems infrastructure
+ Digital Manufacturing experience
+ Architecture, Design & Integration experience for engineering systems and software
+ Technical Writing capability
+ Project / Program Management skills (proposal creation, scheduling, budget tracking)
+ Strong Familiarity with Process Development & Controls
+ Ability to lead through, overcome and adapt to obstacles and challenges
+ Ability to deal effectively with change and challenges and helps others to do the same
+ Ability to travel 10-15% of the time
Primary Level Salary Range: $188,200.00 - $282,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
