We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our dynamic and fast-growing non-profit organization located in Hartford, CT. The ideal candidate will manage accounts payable, grant administration, and other related accounting duties while ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational standards.
ResponsibilitiesEnsure the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, including resolving any issues and handling adjustments, voids, and credit memos.Compile and reconcile corporate credit card transactions.Post monthly prepaid postage entries in Sylogist.Compile monthly reports per the closing checklist.Act as a backup for purchasing orders, processing payments, and tracking financial data.Process Philanthropy Fund payments and donor designations.Manage CI payments, track related contracts, and respond to audit confirmations.Prepare year-end 1099s and maintain quality vendor information.Coordinate and resolve outstanding checks regularly.Process the State of Connecticut unclaimed cash filing annually.File and maintain all contracts and agreements electronically.Utilize DocuSign for tracking payment vouchers and approval signatures.Process manual payments when necessary and manage expense reimbursements for consultants and volunteers.Administer accounting for Workforce Solutions and Strategic Alliance portfolios.Ensure grant terms and conditions are communicated and expenditures comply with awarding conditions.Provide departmental support, participate in grant meetings, monitor grant budgets, and ensure compliance.Prepare detailed financial reports as per grant award terms.Prepare and submit timely closeout reports and maintain supporting documentation.Work with the finance team to manage grant restrictions and invoices in the general ledger.Maintain grant records and details in SharePoint.Administer new grants as assigned.Prepare monthly credit card reconciliations and assist with Stratus Live entries.Assist the Senior Accounting Manager with departmental reports and year-end audits.Support other assigned or collaborative initiatives as necessary.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred.Minimum of two to five years of related business experience.1-3 years of grants management experience preferred.Proficient in calculating and analyzing figures such as discounts, interest, and percentages.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.High degree of ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to relate well with people from diverse groups.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).Accuracy, attention to detail, proactive, and well organized.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in accounting, grants, accounts payable, general ledger, reconciliation, month-end processes, journal entries, and balance sheet management.Work EnvironmentThe position offers a hybrid work schedule. Initially, the role will require 3 to 5 days in the office for training. Post-training, office presence will be 2 to 3 days per week, contingent on performance. More office days may be required if remote work impacts performance negatively.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.06/hr.
