Position Overview

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency across accounting functions. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, month-end close, financial reporting, and support of budgeting, audits, and grant-related accounting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

•\tManage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely processing and accurate recordkeeping.

•\tMaintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries and supporting financial close activities.

•\tLead and support month-end close processes and assist with annual audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation.

•\tEnsure compliance with applicable tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements.

•\tMonitor expenses, validate financial data, and perform account reconciliations and variance analysis.

•\tProvide budget tracking and financial analysis to support operational and leadership decision-making.

•\tManage accounting for grants, restricted funds, and in-kind contributions, ensuring proper classification and compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.

•\tPrepare financial reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders.

•\tDevelop, document, and improve standard operating procedures to enhance accounting processes and internal controls.

Required Qualifications

•\tMinimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience (preferably nonprofit accounting)

•\tHands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting.

•\tProficiency in QuickBooks, including journal entries and reconciliations.

•\tStrong bookkeeping, financial reporting, and organizational skills.

•\tAbility to analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

•\tBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

•\tPrior experience in grant management, or fund accounting.

•\tFamiliarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.

•\tExperience using workflow or project management tools such as Monday.com.

Work Environment & Schedule

This is a full-time, onsite position, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The organization offers a collaborative and supportive work environment, including daily catered lunches.Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of New York, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr.
