About the team:
Walmart U.S. Omni Tech: This is the team which builds reusable technologies that aid in acquiring customers, onboarding and empowering merchants besides ensuring a seamless experience for both these stakeholders. They also optimize tariffs and assortment, adhering to the Walmart philosophy - Everyday Low Cost. In addition to ushering in affordability, they also create personalized experiences for customers the omnichannel way, across all channels - in-store, on the mobile app and websites.Our team is responsible for design, development, and operations of large-scale data systems operating at petabytes scale. We focus on real-time indexing pipelines, web crawling, streaming analytics, distributed machine learning infrastructure. We interact with multiple teams across the company to provide scalable robust technical solutions.

Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Engineer to join our eCommerce Android Platform team. This individual will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the Android platform for our eCommerce business. As a Staff Engineer, you will lead by example and take ownership of technical projects, driving both engineering and operational excellence within the team.

What you will do:

1. Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, efficient, and reusable Android systems and components that drive complex mobile applications.

2. Lead by example, setting technical standards and driving overall technical architecture and design.

3. Collaborate closely with product management, UX designers, and other engineering teams to define innovative UI and functionalities optimized for mobile interfaces.

4. Act as the Subject Technical Owner for the team, taking ownership of technical projects and solutions.

5. Write and maintain technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution.

6. Maintain and improve application performance, compatibility, and responsiveness across various devices and Android versions.

7. Provide technical leadership in every stage of the development process, from design to deployment, ensuring adherence to best practices.

8. Debug and troubleshoot software issues, as well as guide the team in resolving them.

9. Mentor junior developers, enhancing their skills and understanding of Android development.

10. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements in Android technology, and leverage this knowledge to improve the platform.

11. Drive for engineering and operational excellence, delivering high-quality solutions and processes.

What you will bring:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; Master's degree preferred.

2. Proven experience with 10+ years and worked as a Staff Engineer or similar role in Android development.

3. Proficiency in Android development languages, such as Java or Kotlin.

4. Strong understanding of mobile performance optimization and cross-device compatibility.

5. Experience with eCommerce platforms and understanding of UX/UI design principles for mobile.

6. Solid knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes.

7. Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

8. Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead by example.

9. Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail.
