What you'll do...

As a Staff Software Engineer – Full Stack on the Transactional Systems, you will lead the design and development of cutting-edge, scalable applications that power critical financial operations at Walmart. You’ll build systems that process high-volume transactions, ensuring accuracy in fees and timely resolution of disputes and chargebacks. In this role, you’ll collaborate across teams to deliver robust, cloud-native solutions, while also leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) to boost productivity and enhance business value. This is a highly impactful role where technical excellence meets real-world financial outcomes at enterprise scale.

About Team: 

Walmart’s Enterprise Business Services (EBS) is a powerhouse of several exceptional teams delivering world-class technology solutions and services making a profound impact at every level of Walmart.  The Transactional Systems in EBS, plays a vital role in Walmart’s financial ecosystem by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of high-volume payment transactions. Within Transactional Systems, we are a platform engineering team focused on simplifying and scaling how acquirers and new payment methods onboard into our ecosystem. By combining deep payment domain expertise with modern integration tooling, we drive adoption through intuitive experiences, clear documentation, and seamless partner enablement across both US and International.

What you'll do: 

As a Staff Software Engineer – Full Stack on the Transactional Systems team, you will design, develop, and deliver world-class, scalable applications that power Walmart’s financial ecosystem—ensuring accurate transaction fees, fast dispute resolution, and overall financial integrity.

Design and Develop: Build scalable, reliable, and efficient systems that manage high-volume financial transactions and ensure seamless performance across services.End-to-End Ownership: Independently manage end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-quarter projects—driving technical excellence, quality, and timely execution with minimal oversight.Operational Excellence: Exhibit strong operational expertise by proactively addressing production issues, optimizing system reliability, and ensuring secure, stable operations.Technical Leadership: Mentor and guide engineers through design and development challenges, promote best coding practices, and support continuous technical growth within the team.Innovation with GenAI & LLMs: Leverage Generative AI and Large Language Models to improve developer productivity, automate processes, and build intelligent solutions that add measurable business value.Continuous Improvement: Evaluate systems and services holistically to identify the most impactful areas for optimization, performance improvement, and cost efficiency.Quality & Security: Conduct rigorous analysis and testing prior to launches, ensure adherence to best practices, and build secure applications that safeguard sensitive financial data.Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams—engineering, product, finance, and operations—to translate business needs into scalable, maintainable software solutions.Coaching & Hiring: Contribute to hiring efforts, build high-performing agile teams, and support the training and development of team members to enhance organizational capability.Building resilient systems that can process millions of transactions daily with near-zero downtime.Designing intelligent workflows to automate dispute resolution and improve financial accuracy.Balancing innovation with compliance and security in a highly regulated domain.Scaling services to meet the evolving demands of Walmart’s global operations.Collaborate across teams to share knowledge and align technical direction.Build strong stakeholder relationships and communicate effectively on timelines, dependencies, and deliverables.Lead medium-sized projects or critical service areas while mentoring junior engineers and shaping the team’s technical strategy.


What you'll bring: 

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering.Technical Expertise: Proven proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and Data Structures, with strong experience in systems design, algorithms, and distributed systems.GenAI & LLM Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in building applications using Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs). Demonstrated success in implementing AI-driven solutions that deliver tangible business impact and improved user experience.Domain Knowledge: Preferred understanding of Credit/Debit Card Processing flows, including settlement, reconciliation, fee calculation, and chargebacks, with the ability to translate this domain expertise into reliable, scalable technical solutions.Programming Versatility: Experience in the finance, retail, or e-commerce domain. Working knowledge of Python is an added advantage.Cloud & Infrastructure: Exposure to cloud platforms such as OpenStack, Azure, GCP, or AWS, with practical experience deploying and managing scalable services.Architecture & Design: Ability to design technical solutions emphasizing reliability, simplicity, efficiency, and maintainability. Skilled at evaluating multiple approaches, understanding trade-offs, and defending design decisions.Operational Excellence: Commitment to production excellence through monitoring, alerting, incident response, and process improvement. Actively contributes to defining and elevating production standards within the team.Systemic & Analytical Thinking: Strong systems-thinking approach to identify cross-functional dependencies, assess risks, and drive holistic improvements. Skilled at analyzing data to uncover insights, evaluate outcomes, and drive actionable solutions.Simplification Mindset: Recognizes opportunities to automate, simplify, and optimize systems and processes for long-term scalability and cost-effectiveness—balancing innovation with practicality.Agile Delivery: Demonstrated success working in Agile development environments, delivering iterative value while maintaining engineering discipline and quality.Continuous Improvement: A strong drive to learn, innovate, and enhance systems through automation, performance tuning, and technology modernization.Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to debug complex issues, evaluate multiple solutions, and implement the most effective one.Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and influence across teams and stakeholders.ML Awareness: Exposure to information retrieval, statistics, and machine learning concepts, with the ability to apply data-driven thinking in software design.
