The Returnable Packaging Project Manager position develops returnable packaging strategies, solutions, and standards for new and existing product to include inbound parts and finished goods through the full life-cycle of the product. This position has a focus on delivering improvements in sustainability, safety, quality and cost by leading implementation of returnable packaging projects. The position will report directly to the Director of Global Distribution and International Logistics Operations.
This role requires strong project management experience with specific expertise in packaging design and material handling. In collaboration with cross-functional team members from Product Management, Engineering/Design and Supply Chain, this role will coordinate support for structural designs, packaging specifications, costs and feasibility analyses of proposed packaging. The successful candidate will have experience as a project manager and packaging engineering with documented results. In addition, the candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to influence and guide others in the decision-making processes throughout product/project life cycle.
What you will do:
• Generate innovative returnable packaging projects for manufacturing and distribution operations that support enterprise goals for safety, quality, cost out, and sustainability. Lead facilitation of ideation events with business partners.
• Manage pipeline of projects to ensure that enterprise goals are met for sustainability and productivity metrics.
• Provides packaging project management expertise from design through implementation.
• Able to work with internal and external parties to deliver an optimized packaging solution. Packaging includes returnable containers, inserts, carts, racks, and any other item which will hold parts, finished goods and/or supplies required in the material management/ logistics process.
• Lead cross-functional team to implement packaging solutions at any Trane Technologies location, and support phase-gate review process as needed.
• Seek out and work collaboratively with packaging material suppliers, internal engineering, and operations on packaging designs requirements and alternatives.
• Recommend packaging vendor selection to ensure optimized processes and solutions.
• Evaluate packaging solutions for “total cost impact” including material, transportation, capital and labor costs.
• Acts as a subject expert in the area of packaging for New Product Development, Productivity, and Engineering Change projects.
• Writes new procedures and process instructions as necessary and develops training materials and trains users in all tools, measurements and procedures required.
What you will bring:
• BS degree in a business or engineering related field.
• 2 plus years of combined experience in project management and/ or packaging engineering design.
• Experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Ability to interpret CAD and other Assembly drawings, specs and layouts.
• Experience in supplier evaluation, selection and negotiation.
• Working knowledge of materials management/ logistics fundamentals.
• Solid knowledge of Packaged Transit Testing methods preferred, though not required.
• Certified Packaging Professional status preferred, though not required.
• Able to travel as needed, up to 25%.

Base Pay Range: $90,000 - $160,000. Total compensation for this role will include an incentive plan.
