Role: Sr. Threat Research Analyst – 2nd Shift
Location: Waterloo, ON (Hybrid)
The Threat Hunt Team leverages our people, processes and technology to deliver world class threat identification and protection for our customers’ and their data. Companies are recognizing the need to leverage behavioral threat detection for threats more accurately and help protect against insider threat. Your Impact:
A Threat Research Analyst at OpenText is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to impact lives. As a key contributor, you'll be instrumental in utilizing behavioural analytics and advanced threat-hunting technologies to detect and analyze emerging threats, define attack paths, and track threat actors and their tactics, enabling the development of robust behavioural models and proactive defense measures. You will help to extract data and remove the noise to pinpoint internal and external threats. Our client base is global and in nearly every industry. This role focuses on malware identification, automation development, and supporting the efficacy of our security products.
What the role offers:
As a Senior Threat Hunter, you will:
• Identify and classify malware using internal tools, automation, AI/ML, and static/dynamic analysis.
• Develop automation tools and PoCs to improve threat detection workflows.
• Maintain and support backend systems used by threat research teams.
• Leverage threat intelligence, behavioral patterns, and file characteristics to build effective detection logic.
• Collaborate with Product, Support, Data Science, and other teams to resolve threat‑related challenges.
• Communicate clearly in written, verbal, and virtual formats (web chats and meetings).
What you need to Succeed:
• Formal education or relevant hands‑on experience working with Windows malware in a related field (e.g., SOC Analyst, Technical Support, Help Desk).
• Persistence and curiosity—ability to stay engaged during repetitive research tasks and proactively investigate anomalies.
• Demonstrated maturity, professionalism, and strong personal accountability.
• Excellent communication skills across written, verbal, and virtual channels.
• High level of self‑motivation and ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
• CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or other relevant InfoSec certifications.
• Experience with SOAR, DFIR, or Reverse Engineering.
• Blue Team or Antivirus workflow exposure.
• Experience building automation or tooling using AI/ML.

Compensation: At OpenText, we offer a thoughtfully designed benefits package that supports your physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. As you move through the hiring process, we’re happy to provide more details about our compensation programs, including variable and commission compensation opportunities for eligible roles, vacation entitlement, and paid time off.
Salary Range: $71,400.00 - $117,300.00 ; Depending on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, geographical location, and alignment with internal equity and external market, actual salary may vary and be higher or lower than the range posted.
