Sr. Principal, Visual Interaction & Information Systems, Design Foundations, Devices and Services Design
Description We are seeking an expert Senior Principal to lead in defining, harmonizing and elevating the future of interaction and information design systems across our devices and services ecosystem. Working in close partnership with the Visual Systems team, this role will drive fundamental innovation in information architecture, UI flows, and interaction patterns, establishing new paradigms, cross-device, that shape our product portfolio. Impact & Scope: - Direct influence over information architecture and interaction strategy across multiple product lines - Guide investment decisions for next-generation interaction technologies and information systems - Drive unified interaction-visual experiences across the product portfolio - Define taxonomies and navigation patterns that scale across the organization Key job responsibilities - Lead the strategic vision for information architecture, user flows, and interaction systems across multiple product lines - Design and implement coherent information hierarchies that scale across complex systems - Create unified taxonomies and navigation frameworks that enable intuitive user journeys - Develop sophisticated UI flows that seamlessly guide users through complex tasks and systems - Collaborate intensively with the Visual Systems team to create cohesive, intuitive experiences - Design deterministic and parametric UX systems that can adapt to different contexts, modalities, and user needs while maintaining coherence - Establish information architecture standards and interaction design patterns that scale organization-wide - Drive cross-functional innovation initiatives that revolutionize how users navigate and interact with information - Mentor and develop senior technical talent while fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence - Partner with senior leadership to identify strategic opportunities and guide long-term technology investments - Lead and inspire designers and teams through individual creative output and collaborative work - Lead projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team including designers, hardware engineers, writers, product managers and software developers A day in the life This individual serves as both thought leader and problem solver in interaction design and information architecture. In partnership with the ECD Senior Principal of Visual Systems, they will create a powerhouse of design standards and excellence, tackling complex system-level challenges. They will lead through designing, demonstrating, critiquing, and collaborating, while developing innovative solutions to previously unsolved interaction problems. Together, they will conduct joint expert-level design critiques to raise the bar across the organization. This person must influence through evidence-based design, solve intricate design challenges at scale, and consistently anticipate future trends to create cohesive and desirable experiences across devices and services. This complementary partnership will define and drive the next generation of unified interaction and visual experiences for the organization, turning ambitious design problems into elegant solutions. Basic Qualifications - 15+ years of professional practice in information architecture, interaction design, or related fields - Experience leading multi-year design-led initiatives across organizational boundaries - Advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Design or related field preferred Preferred Qualifications - A portfolio demonstrating industry-leading interaction design and information architecture work with proven business impact - Deep expertise in designing complex information systems and user flows - Demonstrated success in designing interaction systems that have been successfully commercialized and achieved significant market adoption - Experience partnering with visual systems teams on complex, integrated user experiences - Distinguished expert status in the field, evidenced by patents, published research, or industry recognition - Excellent understanding of visual design principles and their relationship to information architecture - Ability to balance innovative design with practical implementation and business objectives - Track record of translating theoretical interaction concepts into commercially viable products - Exceptional ability to organize and communicate complex information systems - Deep understanding of information architecture principles and best practices - Track record of mentoring design-technical talent in foundational interaction models - Excellent diplomatic skills with ability to drive alignment across senior stakeholders - Demonstrated thought leadership in information design and interaction patterns - Proven ability to collaborate effectively with visual design leaders, teams and designers Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $196,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $292,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
