Job Description:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of custom equipment systems from the initial concept through to final delivery. This role requires the application of advanced engineering techniques to manage complex designs and tight project schedules, including risk assessment, project implementation, assembly, and debugging. This position is a critical leadership role in the execution of new design and build automation projects.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of custom automated systems, ensuring all processes and components meet client requirements.Coordinate CAD design for sub-systems and entire machines, ensuring that designs meet form, fit, and function requirements.Develop and iterate concept CAD models to define and communicate the overall system layout, including space constraints, motion ranges, and operator interfaces.Collaborate with the controls engineering team to define automation sequences, safety devices, and guarding requirements.Conduct safety risk assessments, document hazards, and develop mitigation strategies.Manage the creation and maintenance of detailed engineering documentation, including schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.Lead project teams in the execution of design phases, ensuring that project milestones are met on time and within budget.Provide technical direction and feedback to engineering team members, ensuring adherence to best practices and project goals.Participate in formal design reviews, offering expert insights and recommendations to optimize designs and processes.Coordinate with project managers to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and maintain project schedules.Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to implement new methods and standards that enhance engineering efficiency and product quality.Support sales and marketing teams with technical expertise during client engagements, contributing to proposal development and project planning.Essential Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in design and custom automation; or a related two-year post-secondary diploma/certificate with a minimum of 10 years of experience.Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).Proficiency in 2D CAD software (AutoCAD or DraftSight preferred).Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).Proficiency in producing engineering documentation, including multi-level bills of materials.Familiarity with machining, manufacturing processes, and materials selection, including coatings and treatments.Ability to perform various engineering calculations, including structural, kinematics, and dynamics analyses.Understanding of machine safety requirements and process automation applications.Solid understanding of Product Data Management (PDM) software, with preference for SolidWorks EPDM.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Experience with SolidWorks Electrical.Familiarity with FEA software (SolidWorks Simulation preferred).Supervisory or leadership experience in an engineering environment.Professional Engineering (PE) registration is an asset.Experience with ISO 9001:2015 procedures and policies.Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and project management tools like Microsoft Project or Smartsheet.Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Blaine, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
