**Position Summary**
CVS Health is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead multiple Scrum teams responsible for the development, maintenance, and modernization of our core mainframe-based applications. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about mentoring teams, driving delivery, and evolving legacy systems.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and manage 3–5 Scrum teams (15–30 engineers) working on mission-critical mainframe applications
- Provide coaching, performance management, and career development for Engineering Managers and senior ICs
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and QA to ensure timely and high-quality delivery
- Drive continuous improvement in agile practices, DevOps adoption, and engineering excellence
- Partner with architecture and infrastructure teams to support modernization initiatives
- Manage technical risks, dependencies, and cross-team coordination
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration
**Required Qualifications**
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering management
- Experience leading teams in a mainframe environment (e.g., COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL)
- Strong understanding of agile methodologies and enterprise software delivery
- Proven ability to manage multiple teams and deliver complex projects
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with modernization efforts is a strong plus
**Preferred Qualifications**
Applicants who have backgrounds in healthcare, claim payment, or Medicare systems will be given preference.
**Education**
Batchelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, or equivalent experience.
**Pay Range**
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
