Sr. Manager Product Safety
Position Purpose:

Develop and manage customer-focused, data-driven process controls that enable corporate operations, store operations, suppliers, and field managers to meet or exceed mandatory (CPSC, NOM, Health Canada, CCC, EU, etc), voluntary (UL, NSF, WCMA, etc) and company product safety standards. Implement procedures and systems to identify alleged product safety incidents, determine disposition of alleged incidents, and execute action plans related to incident disposition in all countries in which The Home Depot either retails or licenses product for sale. Enforce continuous improvement / corrective action / preventative action plan implementation throughout all processes. Maintain data from field, suppliers, and corporate operations to mitigate risks associated with not identifying alleged product safety incidents. Conduct product investigations as needed to maintain company standards for product safety and quality. Meet government reporting obligations in all countries in which THD operates. Develop, coach, and train asociates to deliver results consistent with strategy and regulatory compliance. Develop annual operating plans and shorter term tactical execution plans.


Key Responsibilities:30% Review and resolve issues with Legal, Risk Management, Customer Care, Suppliers, Merchandising, Operations, Distribution, Safety, Customers, and other functions related to the investigation and disposition of product safety issues.25% Coordinate with process stakeholders throughout the Enterprise to ensure appropriate execution of functional responsibilities outlined in product safety policies and procedures. This work involves the facilitation and influence of internal and external resources, as well as executive communication related to the status of all product safety related matters.15% Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures, reporting, metrics, and audit controls to support a data-driven system of risk and performance based criteria to manage product safety goals (quality, cost, service, and risk). This work requires quantitative and qualitative analysis of people, processes, and data.10% Develop and deliver training (internally and externally), tailored to the needs of the specific audience.10% Coordinate with government agencies (e.g., Consumer Product Safety Commission, Health Canada, AQSIQ, Mexico Ministry of Health), safety certification agencies (e.g., Underwriters Laboratories and International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials), and industry to review, and comment on, safety standards applicable to Home Depot products.10% Identify and implement best practices based on industry knowledge.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:Position reports to the Director, Quality AssuranceNo associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).
Travel Requirements:Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
Working Conditions:Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:Must be eighteen years of age or older.Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
