Description
Newly created Sr. Manager/Director of Payroll position to lead our client's payroll department. Working closely with the CFO for this position will ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance with multi-state wage and hour laws, and seamless collaboration with internal teams such as finance and human resources. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in payroll systems, audit practices, and continuous process improvements to support the organization’s mission.
Responsibilities:
+ Lead in-house payroll processing
+ Manage equity compensation withholding
+ Manage and supervise a payroll team
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and employment regulations, including wage and hour laws.
+ Conduct internal audits of payroll processes, tax filings, and accruals to maintain accuracy and compliance.
+ Oversee fiscal, governmental, workers' compensation, and benefits audits related to payroll.
+ Develop and update standard operating procedures for payroll operations.
+ Collaborate with leadership and staff to provide consultative support and ensure payroll practices align with organizational goals.
+ Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll systems and processes.
+ Train and mentor payroll team members to support their growth and development.
+ Partner on system implementations and upgrades to ensure functionality meets organizational needs.
+ General accounting knowledge relates to payroll
Requirements
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is a plus but not required.
+ Certified Payroll certification is highly preferred.
+ At least 10 years of experience managing payroll in a fast-paced, audit-focused environment.
+ Experience with multi-state wage and hour laws affecting payroll processes.
+ Proven ability to drive change and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Demonstrated expertise in handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively coach and train team members and stakeholders.
+ Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, Excel, and other payroll systems is required.
