This role is based at our National Support Center in San Diego and is a hybrid, 3-day-a-week in-office role.

Essential Job Functions:

The partner must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation:

Management:

Directly responsible for skill growth and daily direction of team of HR Systems developers, Systems administrator as well as third-party resources assigned to support systems and applications.Ensure appropriate resources are engaged in requirements gathering, issue resolution, technical triage, project execution for all projects or problems encountered.Ensure representation of the HR Systems Support and Development Team in the development of IT/Business Roadmap including bug fixes, patches and upgrades.Hold teams accountable for complete requirements and business case in support of achieving both the organization unit and total company goals and objectives.Ensure appropriate staffing and sponsorship for upgrades or system implementation projects.Responsible for ensuring direction of all functional components of assigned application(s) to include primary applications of HR domain as well as secondary applications and third-party SaaS solutions.Responsible for oversight of system issue resolution within a DevOps model representing the business to IT and IT to the business.Manages and builds the right team in support of the implementation of new systems, upgrades, patches and/or work associated with modifications to existing systems. This includes capturing business requirements, input data requirements, output requirements, input data acquisition, data governance, systems techniques, controls and testing.Responsible for managing the maintenance of the application health and business capability roadmaps with assistance from the domain architects and business process systems analysts and enterprise architects.Partner internally with cross-functional teams and externally with vendors and consultants.Manages efforts and priorities to match overall company objectives while focusing on simplification of work and processes.Manages a team responsible for the day-to-day support of applications including seasonal set up, configuration changes (if applicable), maintenance of role-based security levels, support with report processing and creation and communication and resolution relating to systems.Mentor, train, guide a broad variety of resources and skill sets to ensure business satisfaction and application health.Ensures team members successfully deliver on time and on budget.Responsible for clearing roadblocks that interfere with the ability for the team to meet its goals and commitments to the organization.Establish and manage vendor relationships and contracts related to solutions that are key components of the HR ecosystem.

Technical Leadership:

Ensures training standards are adhered to and training is maintained and executed across application development unit.Act as owner of all technical aspects of administering the business system and optimization of processes through collaboration and partnerships with the business, IT architects and the IT support team.Represent their systems and business partners in the broader context of organizational systems and process design in order to achieve optimized performance and reduction of workload across other domains and the organization as a whole.Formulates and defines business systems scope and objectives by bringing technical knowledge of the IT systems and processes to new projects within the business.Responsible for ensuring the team is staffed with effective HR Systems Developers and Support personnel, onshore/offshore tower leads and offshore teams to ensure systems are meeting their required performance Service Level Agreements (SLAs).Stay connected within the industry to understand new technology/trends that might enable additional benefit within the business team.Ensure full compliance with Domain and Enterprise Architecture standards to make sure all systems map to Petco’s standards required for full Omni capabilities and upgradability.

Business Alignment:

Responsible for bridging between the business team they support and the technology that enables that business team. Must be equally conversant in business and technology.Manages effective business processes across multiple organizational units through leadership and partnership with business teams. Must understand when business process (not systems) can enable additional benefit within their supported function.Weigh business benefit with ROI to justify the prioritization of work and effort across the portfolio of work to be completed.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, engineering, etc., or related field.

Experience:

10+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in Technology (Business Systems Management)7+ years of experience in HR systems (specifically Workday)Proven track record in leadership roles

Skills & Abilities:

Strong knowledge of enterprise-level systems, including HCM, Payroll, Benefits, Recruiting, Time Tracking, Partner Portal, Intranet, etc.Experience with digital transformation and system integration projects.Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities.Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with teams across various departments.Process re-design leveraging robotic process automation and automation tools.Continuous improvement in problem resolution and post-incident reviewsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and event management tools and software.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in agile methodologies or other project management frameworks.Expertise in cloud-based business applications and emerging technologies.Implementing AI-driven data analysis, and decision-making capabilities.Retail experience, specifically implementing leading edge solutions at other retailers with similar People landscape.
