Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Controls Designer who will be responsible for developing AutoCAD electrical standard drawings for control panel layouts, assembly, BOM, IO wiring diagrams, and more. The role requires database and catalog management, customization per ICS standards, and competence in completing electrical connections within drawing packages.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain electrical design templates and libraries.Ensure all drawings and designs comply with relevant codes and standards.Collaborate with electrical engineers to develop electrical system designs.Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and other data to create detailed designs.Assist in the selection of electrical components and materials.Manage and prioritize multiple design projects to meet deadlines.Work closely with project managers and engineers to understand project requirements and objectives.Prepare and review design documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracy.Create a Bill of Materials, including manufacturer part numbers, quantities, and footage for PDC buildings, MV & LV electrical equipment, and control systems.Create Electrical Area Classification plans and details.Route cables in cable tray systems using cable schedules with minimal guidance.Calculate cable tray fill with minimal guidance.Create tray routing plans.Understand Instrument Cable Block diagrams.Create Instrument Installation details using engineering data sheets with minimal guidance.Perform field work as required to obtain accurate information and create sketches for the design of the project.Produce conduit and grounding drawings.Calculate cable lengths, conduit fill, and perform other basic tasks.Perform corrections to drawings such as P&IDs, Grounding Plans, Cable Routing Plans, Tray Plans, Wiring Diagrams, Schematics, Panel Layouts, E&I details, Building Layouts, and Loop Diagrams.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.Experience in electrical design and controls design.Strong understanding of schematic and panel design.Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings.Familiarity with MCC, PDC, and control panel design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in quality control for design accuracy and completeness.Ability to implement best practices in CAD design and documentation.Experience in conducting design review meetings and providing constructive feedback.Capability to edit drawings and incorporate changes from provided markups and/or verbal instructions.Experience in collaboration with other designers and engineers.Ability to coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and clients to clarify design requirements.Provide technical support and guidance to junior CAD designers.Drafting of control system architecture diagrams and network topology.Drafting of control system schematics, panel layouts, and assembly diagrams.Production of MV/LV switchgear layouts and elevation drawings from a one-line electrical drawing.

Work Environment

The position requires a collaborative environment working with engineers and project managers. The candidate will be expected to perform field work as needed and use modern design tools and software. The work involves managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced setting. Dress code is business casual.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Plano, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $56.00/hr.
