Sr. Director of Operations

What you will be doing

The Sr. Director of Operations is a highly visible, enterprise leadership role designed to accelerate the development of a high‑potential District Manager or above in preparation for their next senior leadership assignment. This role partners closely with the Division President and Operations Leadership Team to identify, structure, and drive solutions to complex business challenges while simplifying processes and improving execution for our store teams.

The Sr. Director of Operations acts as a strategic integrator and operational leader, with functional leads reporting into the role, and serves as the primary point of alignment across merchandising, marketing, finance, supply chain, and field operations. The position provides enterprise exposure through ownership of divisional initiatives, direct leadership of functional resources, and active participation in both short‑ and long‑term division planning.

This role is intentionally designed to broaden enterprise perspective, deepen people leadership capability, and build readiness for future roles such as AVP Operations, SVP Operations, or Division‑level executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise & Operational Leadership

Partner with the Division President and Operations Leadership Team to translate strategy into aligned, executable operational plans. Provide leadership and oversight of key operational metrics, partnering with Finance and functional leaders to identify performance, efficiency, and profitability opportunities. Deliver insights and recommendations to senior leadership on operational performance, risks, and improvement opportunities. Support long‑range divisional planning and assess operational risk related to new initiatives and business decisions.

Functional Leadership & Accountability

Lead assigned functional leaders and support teams, setting priorities, clarifying expectations, and ensuring alignment to divisional goals. Coach, develop, and performance‑manage functional leaders to strengthen leadership capability and decision‑making. Establish clear governance, operating rhythms, and accountability to drive execution and follow‑through.

Project & Program Execution

Lead and oversee cross‑functional initiatives spanning operations, merchandising, marketing, finance, supply chain, and corporate partners. Provide oversight for major enterprise initiatives including new stores, remodels, and other capital projects. Establish project plans, milestones, tracking, and reporting to ensure timely and effective delivery. Identify operational pain points and lead scalable process improvements that simplify work for store and field teams.

The ideal candidate is a high‑performing, high‑potential District Manager or above ready to expand leadership scope beyond direct field ownership.

Functional & Technical Skills Exceptional organizational and project management skills with experience leading multiple initiatives end‑to‑end. Strong financial and analytical acumen, including P&L understanding and KPI interpretation. Ability to translate data and insights into clear actions and priorities. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 10+ years of retail operations experience, including multi‑unit leadership and compliance. 5+ years in senior field leadership, such as District Manager or equivalent role. 5+ years of people leadership experience, including leading other leaders and cross‑functional teams. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred. Experience leading collaboration across front‑of‑house and support functions. Availability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, and travel across the division (~25%).
