Sr. Accountant
Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Des Moines, Iowa. This role is pivotal in maintaining financial accuracy, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting detailed reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in accounting within regulated industries, particularly in insurance, and will collaborate closely with leadership to uphold financial integrity. Responsibilities: • Lead month-end close procedures, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all financial tasks. • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. • Prepare and post journal entries, verifying documentation and addressing discrepancies as needed. • Conduct thorough account reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances. • Apply GAAP principles to ensure proper accounting practices across all financial reporting. • Manage revenue recognition processes, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines. • Monitor expense reporting activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies. • Collaborate with the Director of Financial Reporting to address complex accounting challenges. • Provide insights and recommendations to improve financial processes and systems. • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements while maintaining high standards of financial integrity. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the insurance industry. • Proficiency in month-end close procedures and general ledger maintenance. • Strong knowledge of preparing and managing journal entries. • Expertise in account reconciliation and variance resolution. • Solid understanding of GAAP accounting principles and their application. • Experience with revenue recognition and expense reporting processes. • Ability to operate effectively in a regulated environment. • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
