Torrington, CT area - on site Contact: Brittany Rizzo / Brittany.Rizzo@roberthalf com Reference ID: BR0013377582 Position Summary The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing the day-to-day accounting operations for a large, complex construction organization. This position is responsible for accurate financial reporting, job cost accounting, month-end close, and compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards. The ideal candidate has strong construction accounting experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and operations teams. Key Responsibilities + Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP + Manage job cost accounting, including cost allocations, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition + Analyze project costs, budgets, change orders, and profitability; identify variances and trends + Oversee general ledger activity, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals + Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness + Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate forecasting, billing, and cost reporting + Prepare and review project billings, retainage, and lien waivers + Assist with audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance + Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls + Mentor and review the work of junior accounting staff as needed + Support system improvements and ERP optimization related to construction accounting Requirements Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field + 4-5+ years of strong GAAP accounting experience, including reconciliations, journal entries, month end close, financial statement preparation and analysis, sales & use tax, fixed assets, and working with outside auditors + Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including WIP, job costing, and revenue recognition + Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, Oracle, or similar) + Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial modeling and reporting a plus + Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills + Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment + Strong communication skills and ability to partner with both finance and operations teams Preferred Qualifications + CPA or progress toward certification is a plus + Experience working in a large or multi-entity construction organization + Familiarity with union payroll, multi-state operations, and construction tax considerations Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
