The Minuteman III (MMIII) ICBM Operational Software Support Program (IOSSP) Targeting team is responsible for providing iterative updates to the MMIII Operational Targeting Software (MOTP) and the Strategic Targeting Support Software (STSS). These software updates are critical to maintaining the readiness of the 450 MMIII missiles. The MOTP is a highly scientific 3DOF missile targeting program that provides information to the on-board flight computer to enable it to direct the delivery of a re-entry vehicle to the intended target. The targeting process requires a complete mathematical model of the missile system and environment (propulsion, aerodynamics, dynamics, mass properties, reentry vehicle, climatology, geodesy and gravity). The MOTP computes mission dependent constants (guidance, steering, control, fuzzing), which are used by the MMIII missile’s operational Ground and Flight Programs and re-entry vehicle. The STSS provides the software environment to execute the MOTP.
The Targeting team is also responsible for maintaining a high fidelity 6DOF missile simulation to qualify the MOTP and the STSS.
The qualified candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of software engineers, system engineers, and physicists to make necessary software changes to meet the needs of the customer. Candidate will be responsible for analyzing physics-based software code, software requirements and implementing code changes, as well as updating design documentation, unit-testing, and selling of the requirements through formal testing. Candidate will also work analyzing and prototyping software solutions for outstanding Operational Software Change Requests (OSCRs). Candidates will also assist senior engineers to resolve anomalies in a timely manner. Candidate should be a motivated individual who is detail oriented, diligent, and actively seeks to increase domain knowledge and is proactive in raising technical concerns or obstacles with senior developers and the product lead.
