Senior Specialist Network Technology Support: Role Overview and Requirements

Key ResponsibilitiesAdvanced Load Balancing: Provide expert support for advanced load balancing platforms, specifically F5 Load Balancers, including both physical and virtual load balancers (vLB), as well as Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB), especially as critical applications migrate to platforms such as Azure Cloud, AIC, and iGems.Critical Services Support: Oversee and maintain essential network services such as DNS, NTP, and iQi Insights, ensuring their seamless integration and reliability within complex network architectures.Software-Based and VNF Applications: Deliver support for software-based network applications and Virtual Network Functions (VNF), with a focus on scalability, reliability, and process formalization to accommodate an expanding virtual network environment.Technology Workforce Realignment: Contribute to the ongoing realignment of the technical workforce by adopting and demonstrating a high level of performance, focusing efforts on the most advanced and transformative network technologies.Outage Mitigation & Deployment: Utilize deep subject matter expertise to ensure timely deployment of solutions and rapid mitigation of outages on virtual platforms, particularly those associated with load balancing and application delivery.Client-Centric Solutions: Support mission-critical, iconic clients who are continually evolving their load-balanced application environments. This involves understanding not just the technical configuration of load balancers, but also the application-specific parameters and algorithms that drive optimal performance.Required Skills and ExpertiseDeep Knowledge of Load Balancing Technologies: An advanced understanding of both traditional and virtual load balancing technologies, including their configuration, tuning, and real-world application in dynamic environments.Cloud Integration Experience: Familiarity with migrating and supporting applications in public and hybrid cloud environments, with a particular emphasis on Azure Cloud.Architectural Expertise: Ability to comprehend and contribute to the architectural design of highly available, resilient network services and platforms.Insight into Application Behavior: A strong grasp of how load balancing parameters and algorithms interact with application logic, enabling tailored solutions for diverse client needs.Process Formalization: Experience in developing scalable, repeatable processes for supporting virtual and software-based networking applications.Tool Proficiency: Mastery of advanced network management and troubleshooting tools relevant to load balancing, DNS, VNF, and related virtual platforms.Provides the technical troubleshooting and leadership skills required to recover from the most complex network problems in real time to restore service. Identification of root cause, resolution, work arounds, testing and implementation of vendor / IT fixes or design changes.As subject matter experts, work closely with business partners to identify and quantify business issues associated with specific projects, develop and implement business strategies, and assist in setting strategic technical direction in support of customer facing organizations.Review and approve proposed technical systems designs to ensure business requirements are met.May assist in providing leadership for projects, including such activities as collaborating with the client to develop business cases, defining business and/or technical requirements and preparing detailed plans and schedules.Challenges and OpportunitiesAs applications increasingly migrate to cloud and virtualized environments, the complexity of network topologies and the interdependence of services continues to grow.Virtual load balancing platforms introduce new challenges around scalability, orchestration, and outage mitigation that require deep technical expertise and continuous learning.Supporting a diverse and demanding client base means the team must be agile, knowledgeable, and capable of tailoring network solutions to highly specific application requirements.ConclusionThe role of Senior Specialist Network Technology Support is pivotal within the Lifecycle Engineering team, particularly as networks become more converged, virtualized, and complex.
