Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector is searching for Sr Principal Software Engineer to join the Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) Directorate in our Research and Advanced Design (R&AD) Division in support of R&D activities spanning multiple sectors and programs. The location for this opportunity is in Melbourne, FL and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support the program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule means you will get every other Friday off. The position has some Hybrid work available .

We are looking for innovative thinkers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable with multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks, giving verbal presentations, and self-educating without direct supervision.  The candidate must have a firm understanding of traditional systems engineering concepts and methodologies and must be able to apply and adjust these concepts and methodologies to an accelerated process in the early stages of the engineering design.  The candidate must be familiar with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), be able to work within an agile environment, and be an “out of the box” thinker.

Essential Functions:  

Participate in software development in support of Research and Advanced Design programs

Design, develop, and document software for Tactical Operator Interfaces

Collaborate with the Architects and Systems Engineer to build and test an evolving product

Generate and present material to support internal and external customer briefings

Basic Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 8 Years experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 6 Years experience; OR a PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 4 Years experience​

Experience developing software with C/C++/Python/Java

Experience integrating and debugging software on hardware

Experience working within an Agile environment

Familiarity with software development tools such as Git and CMake

Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company

Preferred Qualifications:

Active Top Secret clearance

Active SAP

Two or more years working in C/C++

DevOps experience with GitLab runners

Experience with containers, Kubernetes, and Helm

Experience with UCI Schema and CAL development

Proficiency working in Linux and commands

Preference to work in software/hardware integration and rapid prototyping

Able to collaborate in a team environment

Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
