Your New Role...
This role serves as the Japan market and content expert within the APAC Merchandising team, responsible for maximizing the full commercial and engagement potential of content across all merchandising pillars on HBO Max. The position leads Japan content scheduling and merchandising strategy and execution in close partnership with APAC and Japan stakeholders, ensuring culturally relevant, data-driven, and high-impact content discovery experiences for Japanese subscribers.
Your Role Accountabilities...
Leadership & Market Ownership
· Lead the Japan merchandising strategy, including the definition and execution of goals, OKRs, priorities, and frameworks aligned to regional and global objectives.
· Act as the primary merchandising lead for Japan, guiding the streaming partner through major strategic content initiatives and providing monthly editorial and rail curation lists.
· Lead the monthly coordination and delivery of content schedules and any content changes working closely with APAC content acquisitions and content licensing teams.
· Manage the onboarding and execution of any co-production titles, overseeing delivery and communication with WB content and operational teams for globally licensed content.
· Build and maintain trusted, high-impact relationships with internal stakeholders and external Japan partners.
Strategy & Performance Optimization
· Partner closely with Marketing, Content Licensing, Data, Partner Campaigns, and Regional Business Leads to drive brand awareness, subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention.
· Leverage content schedule and merchandising to improve key performance metrics, including discoverability, impressions, minutes viewed, content diversity, and impression efficiency.
· Use quantitative insights to inform strategy, evaluate trade-offs between effort and consumer impact, and continuously optimize performance.
· Stay closely connected to cultural and entertainment trends, translating zeitgeist moments into impactful merchandising opportunities.
Operational Excellence & Execution
· Ensure Japan partners receive premiere dates and all required assets (key art, programs, metadata) in a timely manner to support simulcast launches and troubleshoot any associated issues.
· Maintain and continuously update the content schedule to support forward planning and execution, responding to partner requests and enquiries in a timely manner.
· Oversee curation and execution of rails, campaigns, and pages in collaboration with the Japan Partner Merchandising team.
· Regularly refresh rails and pages based on premiering content, performance data, feedback from partner, priority calendars, and cultural relevance.
· Approve campaign site and UX layouts and ensure consistency of editorial voice and brand standards across the product aligned with global frameworks.
· Implement global merchandising frameworks while tailoring execution to Japan’s market, audience behaviours, and content offering.
· Deliver weekly & monthly performance reporting and insights to APAC stakeholders, including recommendations to drive acquisition and engagement.

Qualifications & Experience
· Provan experience working in the Japan market, with extensive knowledge of local content and audience trends.
· Deep familiarity with WB’s content portfolio across movies, scripted, kids, factual, and lifestyle genres, as well as competitor offerings and local market trends.
· Provan experience in streaming products, digital content editorial operations, merchandising workflows, and CMS tools.
· Demonstrated success in project management, stakeholder management, and executive-level communication.
· Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
· Bilingual (English & Japanese professional working proficiency) and willingness to work across APAC time zones is essential.
