Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Enterprise Denial Projects to serve as a senior operational leader within Enterprise Denials Management (EDM). This role is responsible for driving enterprise-wide performance improvement, automation, and strategic alignment across the denials ecosystem at Emory Healthcare, impacting both Hospital Billing (HB) and Professional Billing (PB). The Enterprise Denials Senior Project Manager provides direct leadership and oversight of Enterprise Denials Project Managers supporting HB and PB initiatives, ensures consistent execution of enterprise priorities, and partners closely with the Director of Enterprise Denials Management, Chief Revenue Cycle Officer (CRCO), Revenue Cycle Vice Presidents, and senior operational leaders.This position functions as a key connector across Revenue Cycle operations, Emory Digital, Analytics, clinical departments, and supporting teams - translating complex data into actionable strategies and measurable outcomes.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management Provide direct oversight, leadership, and development of Enterprise Denials Project Managers supporting Hospital Billing and Professional Billing initiatives. Set strategic priorities, clarify ownership, and ensure consistent execution across HB and PB workstreams. Review project plans, deliverables, timelines, and outcomes to ensure alignment with enterprise denials strategy and leadership expectations. Coach and mentor project managers in executive communication, project rigor, stakeholder engagement, and performance accountability. Serve as a strategic partner to the Director of Enterprise Denials Management, supporting operational oversight, strategic planning, leadership preparedness, and execution of departmental priorities. Operational Excellence and Meeting Leadership Lead enterprise denials operational meetings, including cross-functional performance reviews, enterprise workgroups, and leadership alignment sessions. Present clear, data-driven insights on denial trends, root-cause patterns, variances, and enterprise opportunities. Serve as an operational partner to the CRCO, Revenue Cycle VPs, and senior leaders to ensure visibility, alignment, and prioritization of denials initiatives. Coordinate follow-up actions and ensure accountability across multiple stakeholder groups. Process Improvement and Program Management Lead and coordinate all EDM process improvement initiatives using structured project management methodologies. Maintain the Enterprise Denials Project Planner, ensuring transparency of milestones, risks, dependencies, ownership, and outcomes. Partner with senior operational leaders to align process improvement initiatives with enterprise priorities, root-cause trends, and CFO reporting requirements. Identify workflow gaps across Access, CPD, HIM, Coding, Billing, and clinical departments and recommend strategies to reduce denials and improve performance.Analytics, Reporting, and Data Partnership Serve as the primary EDM partner to Analytics leadership to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and enterprise alignment. Collaborate on validation of denial datasets, dashboards, and analytic outputs prior to distribution to leadership and operational partners. Ensure alignment between analytic reporting, root-cause findings, process improvement initiatives, and operational workflows. Translate analytic insights into clear narratives and executive-level materials for Director, VP, and CRCO audiences. Digital Collaboration and Automation Enablement Partner with Emory Digital and Analytics teams to identify and advance automation and AI-enabled opportunities across the denials lifecycle. Translate operational needs into clear business requirements and support design, testing, and validation activities. Evaluate ROI, performance impact, and operational readiness for digital and automation initiatives. Communicate progress, risks, and strategic alignment to senior leadership. Collaboration and Communication Provide regular updates, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to the Director, CRCO, and Revenue Cycle VPs. Develop executive summaries, presentations, and leadership-ready materials. Serve as a liaison across EDM, Revenue Cycle leadership, clinical departments, Emory Digital, and Analytics teams. Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the enterprise. Additional Duties as Assigned

Travel - Less than 10% of the time may be required.

Work Type - Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working onsite as applicable.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Analytics, or a related field or ten (10) or more years of progressive revenue cycle experience in lieu of degree. Experience Minimum of five (5) years of experience in revenue cycle operations, denials management, or healthcare project management. Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing project resources.Experience partnering with senior leaders at the Director and Vice President level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):

Strong understanding of hospital and professional billing denials, root-cause analysis, and payer requirements. Advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to translate complex data into operational strategy. Strong people leadership skills, including coaching and developing project managers. Excellent communication, facilitation, and executive presentation skills. Ability to influence without direct authority and manage competing enterprise priorities. High degree of organization, accuracy, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field. Experience Experience leading or mentoring project managers or analysts. Experience partnering with digital or analytics teams on automation, dashboards, or AI-enabled initiatives. Familiarity with Epic Hospital Billing (HB) and Professional Billing (PB) workflows and denial reporting tools. Certification PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements (Preferred):

Experience with enterprise analytics and reporting platforms such as Power BI or similar tools. Experience supporting executive-level reporting, governance forums, or board-facing materials.
