Sr EV Infrastructure Technical Manager, EV Infrastructure Execution & Performance
Amazon
Description
AMZL is seeking an experienced technical manager for a permanent position to lead the commissioning, technical support, and reliability engineering for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across EU Delivery Stations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring seamless commissioning of EV charging equipment for handover to Amazon Maintenance and Operation Control Centre (AMOC), providing technical expertise for complex failure resolution, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance network reliability and performance as we scale our EV fleet in EU.
As Sr EV Infrastructure Commissioning & Technical Support Manager, the successful candidate will play a critical technical role in ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of our EV charging infrastructure to support AMZL's sustainability commitments. They will support the end-to-end commissioning process from installation through to operational acceptance ensuring right processes are in place for quality handover, serve as the first technical escalation point for complex infrastructure failures, and develop data-driven initiatives to improve network uptime and performance. This role requires deep technical expertise in electrical systems, charging infrastructure (including IT for charger connectivity), and the ability to engage with cross-functional teams including Sustainability Engineering, AMOC, external vendors, and senior leadership.
During the initial 6 months, the role will also include managing power capacity upgrade projects across the network, working closely with external vendors and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to secure increased power capacity at Delivery Stations.
Key job responsibilities
• Support, optimize and standardize the commissioning process for EV charging infrastructure, ensuring successful integration between installations, Anissa CPO platform integration and handover to operations
• Serve as the primary technical escalation point for operations centre teams, providing expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for charger, LV/HV electrical equipment, and IT connectivity failures
• Design and execute comprehensive root cause analysis (RCA) failure mode analysis for complex or repetitive failures across the EV charging network
• Analyze network-wide performance data to identify systemic failure patterns, developing and implementing long-term improvement strategies to increase uptime, reliability, and connectivity metrics
• For the initial 6 months: Manage power upgrade projects across multiple Delivery Stations, coordinating with external electrical contractors, equipment vendors, and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to secure increased power capacity
• Review and support development of technical documentation including commissioning procedures, troubleshooting guides, failure mode libraries, and technical standards for EV infrastructure
• Collaborate with engineering to provide design feedback and lessons learned from commissioning and operational phases to improve future installations
• Build and maintain strong relationships with charging equipment manufacturers, electrical contractors, and DNOs to ensure rapid resolution of technical issues
• Drive strategic technical conversations with senior leadership regarding infrastructure reliability, risk mitigation, and network improvement initiatives
• Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional engineering certification (e.g., CEng, PE, EUR ING)
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in electrical systems commissioning, operations, or maintenance in industrial, commercial, or utility-scale environments
- Proven experience with LV/HV electrical systems, power distribution, and electrical safety standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards)
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex electrical and electromechanical systems
- Strong understanding of EV charging infrastructure, charging protocols (OCPP, ISO 15118), and charge point management systems
- Experience conducting root cause analysis using structured methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA)
- Proven ability to manage technical projects involving multiple external vendors and stakeholders
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in ambiguous situations
- Proficiency with data analysis tools including Excel, SQL, or similar platforms for analyzing performance metrics
- Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Ability to work across multiple geographical regions and manage concurrent technical projects
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate across all levels of organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
- Professional Engineering certifications: Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (PE), or European Engineer (EUR ING)
- Specific certifications in EV charging infrastructure (e.g., EVITP - Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program, or equivalent EU certification)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2 certification
- Experience with OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) implementation and CPO (Charge Point Operator) platform integration
- Previous experience in commissioning or operations management within logistics, fleet, or transportation sectors
- Familiarity with DNO connection processes and utility coordination in the UK/EU
- Experience with SCADA systems, IoT connectivity solutions, and network monitoring platforms
- Knowledge of reliability engineering principles (RCM, RCA)
- Experience writing technical specifications, design validation plans, and commissioning procedures for electrical infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex business case analysis for technical decisions and present to senior leadership in high-level reviews
