Under the guidance of department leadership, the Specimen Processor performs clerical and technical lab duties accurately and promptly, with a commitment to exceeding customer expectations. This role entails executing scheduled tasks, taking initiative within the scope of duties, and striving for continuous improvement based on laboratory and client needs. The Specimen Processor plays a critical role in providing lifesaving diagnostic services, aligning with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Responsibilities
+ Understand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
+ Support leadership during audits when required.
+ Handle shipping, receiving, and tracking of packages and specimens while maintaining sample integrity.
+ Receive, classify, and process specimens accurately and expediently.
+ Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability.
+ Maintain sample identity and ensure samples are stored at appropriate temperatures.
+ Perform data entry functions using appropriate systems.
+ Proofread work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format.
+ Prepare samples for laboratory testing as necessary.
+ Perform reagent preparation as needed.
+ Operate, troubleshoot, and conduct routine maintenance and calibration on equipment.
+ Identify, document, and resolve sample issues or discrepancies with the client.
+ Respond to telephone calls and email requests professionally and courteously.
+ Research and resolve issues promptly, providing follow-up to customers.
+ Utilize written and verbal communication skills for exemplary customer service.
+ Maintain organization of departmental records.
+ Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory.
+ Work weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.
+ Train others on job tasks when assigned.
+ Maintain applicable competencies and continuing education credits.
+ Perform duties in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
+ Comply with all standard operating policies and procedures.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in laboratory, sample preparation, specimen processing, and sample handling.
+ Phlebotomy certification and specimen collection skills.
+ Proficiency in accessioning, packaging, and sample handling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School diploma with 6+ months of work experience in production or healthcare.
+ Associate's degree in life science or science-adjacent field with retail/serving/fast-paced experience.
+ Bachelor's degree in a science-adjacent field.
+ Phlebotomy, processing, or healthcare experience.
Work Environment
The position operates on a 3rd shift schedule, with options between Wednesday to Saturday and Friday to Monday from 8:00 pm to 6:30 am, including rotating holidays. The testing lab services multiple regions, including Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan. Dress code includes scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and comfortable, clean, close-toe shoes. The lab is equipped with centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes. While overtime is not likely, there is availability for additional hours if desired.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
