Responsibilities
The Specialty Retail Pharmacy Manager serves as the Pharmacist in Charge for the specialty retail outpatient pharmacy and provides advanced operational, clinical, regulatory, and financial leadership for high-cost, high-complexity specialty medications. This role represents an elevated level of responsibility and expertise beyond the Retail Pharmacy Manager role, requiring specialized knowledge of specialty therapeutics, payer access, accreditation standards, and integrated care delivery models.The Specialty Retail Pharmacy Manager is accountable for the oversight of specialty medication distribution, payer and benefit design navigation, limited distribution networks (LDNs), manufacturer hub coordination, and comprehensive patient support programs. This position maintains ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations and is responsible for achieving, maintaining, and continuously improving URAC and/or ACHC specialty pharmacy accreditation standards, including readiness for audits, performance monitoring, policy governance, and quality improvement initiatives.The Specialty Retail Pharmacy Manager leads multidisciplinary teams and collaborates closely with prescribers, specialty pharmacy services, population health, pharmacotherapy, revenue cycle, and payer partners to optimize patient outcomes, access to therapy, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability. This role requires advanced expertise in specialty pharmacy operations, payer strategy, regulatory and accreditation compliance, and performance management, positioning it as a leadership role beyond traditional retail pharmacy management.The scope of care includes—but is not limited to—specialty therapies for oncology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, neurology, multiple sclerosis, HIV, transplant, rare diseases, and other limited-distribution or high-touch therapies, as well as integration with hospital-based and ambulatory clinical programs..
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Current state Registered Pharmacist License required.2. B.S. degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required.3. Minimum of 5 years of progressive pharmacy experience, including at least 3 years in a retail, outpatient, ambulatory, or specialty pharmacy setting required. Previous retail supervisory or PIC experience required.4. Demonstrated leadership experience in a supervisory, management, or Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) role required; specialty pharmacy or advanced outpatient leadership experience strongly preferred.5. Experience managing high-cost, high-complexity specialty medications, including payer authorization processes, limited distribution networks (LDNs), manufacturer hubs, or patient assistance programs preferred.6. Experience supporting or maintaining URAC and/or ACHC accreditation standards, including policy development, quality metrics, audit readiness, and continuous compliance activities preferred.7. APhA Immunization Certification and BLS required.8. Experience working with ambulatory care, pharmacotherapy, population health, or specialty pharmacy teams preferred.9. Experience with 340B program operations, compliance, or optimization preferred when practicing within a 340B-covered entity.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $118,955.20 to $185,307.20 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
