Employment Coach
Position Title: Special Education Employment Coach/Husky Connect to Careers Coordinator- Part Time
Qualifications:
1. Valid Iowa Teaching Certificate – applicable to posting.
2. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
3. Good communication and problem solving skills.
4. Self-directed.
5. Enthusiastic about learning and committed to continuous development as an educator.
Reports to:
Director of Student Services
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities:
+ Establish rapport and relationships with students to help them in gathering information to help develop a personalized transition/career plan.
+ Work collaboratively with students, district staff, and parents in developing meaningful transition plans and work experiences.
+ Ability to work with a variety of agencies and businesses in a friendly and professional manner.
+ Demonstrate good communication (verbal & written).
+ Work cohesively with special education teachers and outside agencies. .
+ Maintain accurate records and documentation of employment for reporting to parents, guardians, district administration.
+ Provide vocational counseling as necessary to ensure understanding of disabilities and assist with developing appropriate vocational choices.
+ Work cooperatively with community agencies and businesses to establish appropriate work experiences for students with disabilities.
+ Maintain cordial and cooperative working relations with parents, district staff, community providers, and outside agencies.
+ Provide flexible, energetic, innovative and imaginative learning activities.
+ Provide vocational instruction and employment information, training in community and independent living skills including self-determination, daily living, health and physical care, leisure activities, mobility/transportation training, money management, personal finance, social and interpersonal skills, work-place readiness and specific occupational information.
+ Serve as a resource relative to transition services and training information.
+ Collaborate with related agencies on improving employment of individuals with disabilities.
+ Coordinate and monitor appropriate services to help participants attain vocational, educational, and independent living goals.
+ Work cooperatively with other agencies or staff towards employment goals developed on an individualized basis.
+ Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary IEP team to build partnerships that will enhance student outcomes.
+ Ability to interact professionally with all individuals, especially those with disabilities.
Professional responsibilities:

2. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships and works cooperatively with students, parents and colleagues.
3. Projects a positive image as an educator in the school and community.
4. Demonstrates initiative and ability to work without close supervision.
5. Displays a positive attitude and adjusts to new changing situations.
6. Meets deadlines, is punctual and completes assigned tasks with minimal assistance. 7. Seeks opportunities to improve professional competence through professional development activities.
8. Takes an active interest in the school and community.
9. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
Terms of Employment:Hourly at the rate of $30/hour, no more than 20 hours per week not to exceed 50 hours per month.
Evaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Student Services.
Physical Requirements:Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
Working Conditions:Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
