Special Assets Loan Officer
Description Jenny Bour with Robert Half is working with a growing bank that is seeking a strategic, detail‑oriented Special Assets Officer to lead all functions related to distressed loans, asset recovery, and foreclosure management. This Special Assets Officer role oversees a specialized team, drives collection strategies, and ensures proper management and disposition of real estate owned (REO) assets. If you excel at navigating complex lending situations and bringing resolution to challenging accounts, this position offers an opportunity to make a significant organizational impact. Key Responsibilities + Develop and implement policies and best practices for collections, delinquency resolution, and default management. + Monitor and review delinquent loan portfolios; communicate directly with borrowers through calls, written notices, and on‑site visits. + Guide and support collections staff on account workouts, repayment plans, and remediation efforts. + Oversee reporting for residential mortgage and commercial loan activity, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance. + Direct foreclosure actions for accounts deemed unresolvable, ensuring all documentation and system data are complete and accurate. + Collaborate with legal counsel on litigation, foreclosure processes, and court proceedings. + Manage REO properties, including inspections, upkeep, and coordination of tax and insurance obligations. + Negotiate rental, lease, or sales agreements for foreclosed properties. + Participate in departmental initiatives, training, and team efforts to support organizational goals. Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in a related field (finance, business, accounting, or similar). + Six or more years of relevant experience in loan collections, special assets, or related financial services. + Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. + Solid understanding of accounting principles, loan servicing, and financial industry dynamics. + Knowledge of banking regulations, foreclosure laws, and the Bank Secrecy Act. + Proficiency with email, databases, spreadsheets, and standard office software. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Ability to problem‑solve, think critically, and manage sensitive situations with professionalism.
