As a Software Engineering Group Manager within PNC's Technology organization, you will sit in Dallas TX.

The Software Engineering Group Manager – Retail RTB is a senior engineering leader responsible for ensuring the stability, availability, and operational excellence of PNC’s critical Retail banking applications. This role leads multiple engineering, SRE, and application support teams that maintain high‑visibility customer‑servicing platforms—including Mobile, Online, Care Center Technologies, Branch systems, ATMs, Deposits, and related Retail technology ecosystems.
The leader in this role owns production reliability, operational maturity, and RTB execution, while also driving risk reduction, deep technical analysis, and continuous improvement across a broad portfolio of mission‑critical systems.
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure the stability, availability, and performance of mission‑critical Retail applications.
- Oversee and mature incident, problem, and change management processes including P1/P2 handling, MTTR reduction, change success rate improvement, and operational guardrail enforcement.
- Own SLA adherence across key customer‑servicing channels and ensure resilience against operational risk.
- Lead operational readiness efforts including UAT, business continuity testing, lifecycle events, vulnerability remediation, and certificate renewals.
- Lead multi‑layer teams including Engineering Managers, Senior Engineers, Architects, SREs, and Application Support Specialists.
- Drive deep technical reviews to improve system understanding, failure‑mode readiness, observability, alerting, automation, and overall operational maturity.
- Apply strong technical judgment to evaluate feasibility, make informed tradeoffs, and ensure system integrity.
- Enhance and expand SRE practices tied to incident, problem, and event management.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, CTB Engineering, Infrastructure, Operations, and Retail LOB leaders to ensure aligned objectives and reduce systemic risk.
- Communicate program and operational status clearly to senior leadership through concise reporting, dashboards, and executive storytelling.
- Facilitate collaboration across engineering, QA, design, and business partners to maintain customer‑first service commitments.
- Identify operational, technical, and systemic risks and drive mitigation strategies proactively.
- Lead ongoing operational uplift through automation, monitoring, runbook quality improvements, and maturity scoring.
- Track key reliability metrics (P1/P2 volumes, MTTR, SLA adherence, change success rate, remediation commitments).
Success Measures
- Operational Stability: Reduced P1/P2 incidents, faster MTTR, and improved change success.
- SLA & Availability: Consistent achievement of performance, uptime, and response‑time commitments.
- Risk Mitigation: On‑time completion of vulnerabilities, lifecycle, and certificate work.
- Operational Maturity: Better observability, automation, alerting coverage, and runbook depth.
- Team Leadership: Strong organizational health and effective coaching of engineering leaders.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8–10+ years in software engineering, production operations, SRE, or application support preferred.
- Proven leadership of engineering and operational teams supporting mission‑critical distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in incidents, problems, and change management.
- Strong understanding of Retail banking systems, real‑time transaction flows, integrations, and operational risk domains.
- Ability to lead effectively during high‑severity incidents and communicate clearly at all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large‑scale customer‑servicing platforms.
- Background in observability tooling, automation, and operational excellence practices.
- Experience in financial‑services or regulated industries.

**Work Experience**
Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree. Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable. Industry-relevant experience is typically 8+ years. At least 5 years of prior management experience is typically required. Proven leadership experience with a moderate to large scope of responsibility is required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
