Software Engineer III - AWS Database Engineer

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking Team, you are part of an agile team that works to enhance, design, and deliver the software components of the firm’s state-of-the-art technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As an emerging member of a software engineering team, you execute software solutions through the design, development, and technical troubleshooting of multiple components within a technical product, application, or system, while gaining the skills and experience needed to grow within your role.

Job responsibilities

 

Administer, design, implement, and support highly available and scalable AWS database solutionsImplement data models, database designs, data access, and table maintenance codesMaintain Distributed Databases with High Availability features using Data Partitioning and Database replicationsResolve database performance, capacity, replication, and other data issuesCollaborate with Information Architects and Database Designers to implement the physical data modelDevelop database performance monitoring processes and analyze data for optimization opportunitiesProvide up to Level 2 on-call support as neededManage on-site backup and recovery processesPlan and execute necessary database upgrades or migrationsDemonstrate technical problem-solving skillsGain experience with incident management and root cause analysis.

 

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

 

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experienceExtensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS, DynamoDB databasesExperience in database design/development, modeling, integration, optimization, systems re-engineering, and operations support for both cloud and on-prem environmentsExperience in SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including MySQL and CassandraExperience on-premises database systems such as Oracle, and DB2 is requiredExperience in migrating databases from on-prem to cloud environmentsExperience in  implementing and managing database security, backup, and recovery strategiesExperience with AWS management and monitoring tools like CloudFormation, AWS CLI, AWS SDKs, AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, Performance Insights, DB Insights or Prometheus.Expereicne in creating roadmaps, processes, best practices, standards, and strategies for continuous improvement, resiliency, and scalabilityExperience with infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormationExperience with Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence.
