**About the Role**
The Sustainability Tech team at Uber is tasked with enabling Uber to meet its public commitments to zero out tailpipe emissions and packaging waste. We drive sustainability impact by helping drivers and couriers transition to electric vehicles, by helping merchants transition to sustainable packaging materials, and by increasing demand for low-emissions Rides products and low-waste Eats merchants. Our focus is narrow but our scope is broad, and our work touches every aspect of the business.Uber’s 6 million drivers and couriers move hundreds of millions of people and deliveries globally every month. This presents a tremendous opportunity for sustainability impact, eliminating the carbon emissions and packaging waste associated with those trips and deliveries.The Backend Engineer will build products that accelerate Uber’s progress toward zero emissions and zero waste, establishing and extending our microservices to deliver sustainable experiences at Uber scale. The Engineer will collaborate with others on the team and adjacent teams to quickly prototype new products, while holding a high bar on engineering excellence, across all of Uber’s flagship mobile apps.

1. Design, develop, and improve solutions used by millions of members, in collaboration with a team of talented engineers, Product Managers and Designers.
2. Write high-quality code and uphold standards for testing and coverage.
3. Align the team on solutions to ambiguous problems and analyze the tradeoffs of different technical solutions
4. Contribute to engineering cultivation in terms of quality, monitoring, and on-call practices.
5. Find opportunities to improve how our team operates and promote standard processes
\-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field **OR** 3-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, **WHICH INCLUDES** 3-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
2. Programming language (e.g. Swift, Objective C, C, C++, Java, Javascript, Python, or Go)
3. _Note the 3-years total of specialised software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The year of specialised experience is not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated._

1. Extensive Android development experience,
2. Proven ability to enhance team efficiency or culture through positive initiatives
3. Experience in developing mobile apps used by millions of users
4. Strong focus on delivering high-quality mobile UI experiences and feature development
5. Ability to take ownership and independently drive projects to completion
6. Proficient in new feature development, performance testing, and cross-team collaboration
